- Real-time lighting and shadows

good game
Wow!! What a botched job!!
Like many of you, I've seen many bad games here on Steam! . . . But this one has to be the worst!!
Everything is so poorly coded that you can't even fix the resolution to get full screen. Unit placement is so inaccurate that you can't even finish the TUTORIAL! (lol!) Such a sloppy job from the Devs that you can't even EXIT the damn thing!
Trust my advice: Avoid that sad joke! Plain and simple!
And if you are somewhat masochist and still want to try it: Make sure you play it before the 2h / 2 weeks Steam refund policy . . . And thank me later! ;)
This game is garbage. Fun, but garbage. It's great for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with a friend if they're willing to buy it for you. It's a sort of "so bad it's good".
A tower defense game that nicely leans more towards being an RTS. The starting difficulty curve is too steep however.
Asking for a refund. Even with shadows low, the game crashed twice within the 27 minutes I played it. Thanks for playing and I hope the game improves. The music and concept seem nice, but not holding my breath.
This game is unplayable for me. It keeps locking up and freezing in the tutorial. Tried on two different machines. Looks like it has not been talked about in years either so I am guessing the devs stopped updating. Its a shame cause I love tower games.
It's a decent indie tower defense with multiplayer. I think it's a good game and fun, graphics aren't very good and some imbalance issues and difficulty defending buildings and managing troops. But overall, at its core, a good game. I like it. Multiplayer is dead but wife and I still liek to do 1v1 battles against each other. 7/10
Extremely fun, challenging and somewhat skillful game. I use this game as a pass time as it has a very short styled campaign i've completed it on easy, hard and normal. Would rewccomend to anyone who needs a cheap, fun and good game.
This game is proof that a game does not need high end graphics to be a fun and challenging game. Easy to learn, and challenging to master. The simple graphics gives it a special charm. And for the low price, you get a lot of content! Highly recommend.
Lacks content.
Played both "campaigns," about an hour each, which are essentially the same level with different (underwhelming) boss battles.
Only experienced 1 minor bug.
UI is weak, exacerbated by playing in fullscreen, even more so in 4k (tiny icons, tooltips on the opposite corner of the screen for where I'm trying to mouse-over an ability, etc).
Some neat ideas about troop movement and control, which ultimately don't pay out (mouse wheel zooms in and out, which I rarely need, but ctrl+mousewheel aims troops which I need all the time).
Castle building is very linear and lacks options.
The game runs smoothly and the art and VO are serviceable. It's just not very engaging with this level of content, but not poorly made or buggy, either.
Some issues were because my computer defaulted to the intel graphics instead of the graphics card. Once I discovered this, many issues disappeared. So I have edited my revieew below.
Ok, so, here's the thing.
This game is has bugs.
It's unoptimised, I disabled shadows otherwise I couldn't use the game speed buttons.
The time controls only work when I've disabled all the graphics options, and I'm 100% sure it's because the developer implemented time by lifting the FPS cap when preferably they would adjust the game to do more in each frame.
And the language used in some of the UI doesn't sound quite right, like it wasn't checked by someone with English as a first language.
BUT...
I can't deny that I enjoyed it more than a coffee that costs the same price. It just feels like an early access game. I'll happily play it again once some bugs are worked out. In fact, I would happily report bugs but I'm not sure how to contact the developer.
Fortify is a real-time strategy game. If you are trying to find a enjoyable tower defense game as identified by the game's tag, then it is not for you. Actually, I think this game is also unsuitable for most of the players seeking a good RTS game.
In the game you earn money by killing wave after wave of incoming monsters with your ranged soliders on the fortress walls or melee soldiers outside the walls. With the money you can train new units, upgrade techlogies and build resource-gathering facilities on certain points of the map. You lose if your castle is brought down by the monsters. The whole system sounds ok and also works, but fails to provide anything exciting. It is like a highly simplified top-down view version of the classic game Stronghold, or like a portion cut out from a complete big-title RTS game. There are also other issues with this game. The game runs only in a window, and the whole window is quite blur and dark. The music is repetitive.
I have not tried the multiplayer game, but since there are only about 50 comments in this store page, I doubt if it is possible to find an opponent.
More RTS than Tower Defense I would say. You need to move units all over the map (though not all the time) and micro the placement of units under time duress (no pause and order).
Not a bad game but if you want a Tower Defense, make sure you know what you buy.
Not recommended as a Tower Defense game, recommended as an RTS.
Fortify is a great little game, it has some really interesting mechanics when it comes to castle defence. I really liked the arcs of fire with different units, it makes the player more active in defending the castle instead of having a 360 degree tower that you build and forget.
Ultimately i felt that after i'd finished the first level the game didn't have much left to offer me. I'd completed all the upgrades for my castle and my units, my outposts were fully upgraded and it became very repetitive. I've seen many games like this before on flash game websites, but for the price it's a very nice piece. You'll get a few hours enjoyment out of it and I honestly dont think you'll walk away from Fortify unhappy. Just don't expect too much.
This is a simple game. A game that you will play after a long day of taking a beating from your boss that happens to have a god-complex. A game that will make you wish you played more of the retro-style games when you were younger. A game that will find you staring at your screen in awe as you discover that your defense was meaningless! On a serious note, though, this game is epic.
PROS:
-Sexy retro graphics
-A slight twist (and improvement) on the traditional TD style
-Replayability is quite ok (for its money's worth)
-Differing levels of Singleplayer difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, Impossible)
-1 vs 1 casual multiplayer battles in a sort of Warcraft III custom map feel
-Minimal bugs, maybe 2 or 3 tops
-An active developer
CONS: (I understand this is a newborn game)
-A slightly complicated UI, and this might make beginners feel rather overwhelmed (you get used to it after about 15 minutes, though)
-The multiplayer community is in dire need of players
-A somewhat linear style of gameplay, and players may find themselves undergoing a repetitive cycle if they aren't enthusiastic about TD
SUMMARY:
-A great concept, nice gameplay, nostalgia-inducing. I feel like this game will grow well if the developer continues to work on this, and doesn't leave it dead. A LOT of potential for tons of updates in the future and exciting content. I say, give this game a shot guys.
I enjoy tower defense but this is not worth it even at a bargain price.
The cursur movement slows down when in the game screen to a point that I found this unplayable.
Movement control of the characters is cumbersome and tedious.
Best strategy tower defense game on the Market! Hope to see more by the devs ! Maybe a new update for a new soldier or something! Keep up the good work!
There does not quite seem to be enough there to really make this worth my while. Quite disappointed with the inability to design the castle more, and the controls are unintuative, which is a problem ina real time game. I found the economic balancing a little odd too.'
A nice idea, but needed better execution.
TL;DR: Really nice game to fair price. If you like RTS/Tower Defense and have someone to play it with in multiplayer buy it immediatly!
I followed the development of this game for a while and bought it on release and I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, no it's definitely a really nice game. I'm a huge fan of indie games and also of RTS games, so this game was an easy buy-choice for me. And I don't regret the purchase, but this game is still not perfect. There are many small things that bug me and some of them are easily fixable. And I hope this game gets more content in future updates.
The biggest thing everyone who buys this game will notice immediatly is that this game has no resolution option at all, which would be no problem if it was in HD anyway or would have pixelart style, but its more in a flash-game kind of style, i.e. it has sort of high resolution textures and tries to look "realistic". I like the design and it fits the game perfectly but because there is no resolution option the game will be noticable blurry (at least in the main menu) when played in fullscreen. But I can live with that.
Then there is the 30 fps lock, which really is no problem at all because of the gameplay. But I noticed that when you advance time at night the fps lock will switch to 60, 90 and 120 fps, which then speeds up the game. That's not really professional, but it works...I guess.....nice workaround...but this probably explains why it has a 30 fps lock instead of 60 fps. Since 4x60fps = 240fps which would probably cause some problems on less powerful systems.
Next thing that I noticed are some AI problems here and there. The AI really has no AI at all except maybe some kind of pathfinding. This kinda sucks because you'll always have to rotate your troops so that they attack the enemy. You can't set something like patrol paths or auto-rotation. And everytime you change the direction of your ranged units you'll have to change it back, because the position-saving only saves their position, and not their rotation, so when you say them to go back to their default position but you rotated them earliert they will then look in the wrong direction. Dev, pls fix this!
Then there is the problem that most of the times you won't find someone to play with, and I doubt this will change in the future, probably it will become even harder. But yea, that's because not enough people play this game, that's not the games fault :D

The particle effects look okay, sometimes nice, sometimes not so nice. Animations look good. Textures are sometimes really good, sometimes blurry. All sprites look pretty good. All in all the game looks good.
The tutorial is very good (but sadly only explains the singleplayer) and you understand the game within minutes.
Even some classic RTS shortcuts work like Ctrl+123....
I couldn't find any really bad bugs and the game only crashed when there was a 1v1 tournament, organized by the dev.
And when this was fixed I didn't experience any bugs anymore.
Btw the dev is really nice and helps where he can.
The balance of the game is okay I guess, I didn't notice any too powerful/underpowered units so far.
I would love to see some more options for defensive structures like actual towers that you can place wherever you want, or turrets or barricades. I mean there is the catapult and the tar field, but you always have to place it new when it burns down and you have to fire the catapult manually.
Of course I would also like to see more gamemodes/maps, especially for multiplayer. Maybe a coop mode or more than 2 player mode? Unlikely, but I would love it.
So yea, a pretty good game that could be even better after some updates, but since it was just released I'm looking forward to future updates.
This game is good. Just a simple Tower-Defense/RTS hybrid in the same vein as some zombie survival flash games you might've seen on Armor Games about a decade ago. Like those games, this one has a very addicting nature and you'll find yourself sinking a good number of hours into the Arcade mode, trying to get further and further every time. So far my best playthrough is 22 waves.
Fortify plays in a very simple manner. You have a fort that starts out very low tier with just a couple of slingshooters to hold back the tides of evil. As you gain more gold, you'll unlock new units. You'll upgrade your fort and build outposts which produce 1 of 3 resources that are used to further upgrade your fort. You'll progress through three tech levels; Iron Age, Medieval Age and Imperial Age. Starting from slingshots and ending with rifles and grenades. Aside from the 2 campaigns in the game (Northern, West) you also have an endless Arcade mode and a multiplayer mode where you can battle against 1 other player.
In summation, a very solid title that I've had an absolute blast with. And for 4.99, you can hardly beat it! A lot of indie titles price themselves out of the market, assuming they have plenty of content for the price. This title can actually carry that boast.

It is a fun game but vey short and flat gameplay.
You beat the game very quickly.
I like these kinds of games but it was to small for me.
In my opinion it should have more ages, units, story etc...
On the other hand this game was not expensive so my expectations were low.
You can find simmalar online java style games but better (more advanced) then this game.
Verdict: Do Not Buy.
