The Campaign Series: Fall Weiss is a fantastic wargame that captures the essence of strategic warfare during World War II. The attention to detail in unit types, terrain, and historical accuracy is impressive. Gameplay is challenging yet rewarding, offering hours of engrossing tactical decisions. The user interface may seem complex at first, but it becomes intuitive after some practice. For fans of historical wargames, this title is a must-have!
The game perfectly immerses you in the atmosphere of an alternative history of war, especially emphasizing political decision-making!
Fans of contour maps will really like it, besides, it’s much cheaper than its analogues and, in principle, a good strategy
"The Campaign Series: Fall Weiss" is a tactical wargame that focuses on the early stages of World War II, specifically the German invasion of Poland in 1939. Players can command various military units, strategizing to achieve victory through detailed turn-based gameplay. The game features historically accurate scenarios, a range of unit types, and a user-friendly interface that allows for deep tactical planning. With its emphasis on historical accuracy and strategic depth, it offers a compelling experience for fans of military strategy games.
engaging strategy game where you can change the course of history. Deep gameplay and interesting scenarios. Highly recommended
blitzkrieg bop
its bewildering to me that people take one look at RTS games and think "ooo i want to play that!"
Can't think of a lot of games where Poland during the start of WW2 is the main focus.
Considering the Poles made this game I believe there is quite a bit of historical accuracy here (regarding units and their positions). You learn about the names of cities and towns that, if you go for the achievements, make you realize that there are specific dates those places were conquered and as such inspired me to look up those battles.
A nice little history lesson - which is what i really like about this game.
The game itself is standard for Wastelands Interactive. Like from a template just tuned up a bit and covering different scenarios. This one has a manual so that will turn off a part of potential players. The next is the difficulty of actually learning and getting good at the game. It is no easy game and it isn't beginner friendly.
Overall I enjoyed it. Playing with the germans is easy, with the soviets is kind of boring since you have to wait for 17 turns to even do something and if you play with the poles you are in for a world of pain.
The Campaign Series: Fall Weiss is a broken and unplayable 2D hex map turn based strategy game... and if done well there's no reason such a game shouldn't have some success, but this is a busted train wreck. This seems like it was a really, really old 2000's era game and the "developer" got their hands on it (through shady or unshady means, who knows) and dumped it on Steam quickly as a cash grab... this wouldn't be a surprise given the "developer"s history of shady crapware on Steam.
Of course, they didn't test it... on the latest builds of Windows 10/11, the mouse pointer doesn't render properly, which means you can't use the menus, which means you can't play the game. It's broken. But they still want your money.
If you could get this to work, from a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. The Campaign Series: Fall Weiss has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for making an enemy unit withdraw in any battle, trivial to achieve, but less than 10 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 10 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother to played the game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
The Campaign Series: Fall Weiss has the almost scam-like price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
I bought this title years ago back when I was new to steam gaming and I recollect having a problem with this game then but I had a lot of games to check out (through bundles) so I just hid the game in my library.
Now 5 years or so later I've just about brought all the war strategy games there are and therefore thought I'd revisit this game.
The problem is the mouse pointer is invisible in full scream mode.
I actually blindly moved the mouse around and got it to load only for the game to crash.
In windowed mode, the mouse just hovers over the window and none of the title screen options appear.
I can find nothing online that I can do to rectify this and given how old the game is, the Developer isn't going to do anything about it either.
Do what I'm about to do and steer clear of Wasteland Interactive
Locks up at initial loading screen. Cant find solutions in the games forums.
No Tutorial !
Skip this game as there's no support and the Steam forum is a graveyard.
So I got sucked in. I read the reviews and was very leery of getting this. While it is in my wheel house (love hex turn based wargames), the reviews were NOT good. But when it made it down to under $5, i says to myself why not......
So i get it, download it and start to play. I made it exactly 1/100th of a turn. I figured out how to move, moved 3 German units, destroyed 1 Polish unit with equal damage to my units......no personality, no hook to keep playing. That's it, that's all. Believe the reviews and don't buy it.
I am not often the person to NOT recommend games, but this game I can NOT recommend because the AI turns are too long, no tutorial, the fact you're just thrown directly into the game without knowing anything about the game at all just entirely ruins the gaming mood for me. I just think that if this game is to actually MAKE it as a good game, it needs serious improvements in a lot of area's. That's basically the whole story on why I can NOT recommend this game. Good day, thank you for reading & God Bless you folks.
This is an incredible wargame. It feels like a boardgame from the 70's without all the rolling of dice and math. It looks complicated, but you are really just moving troops around trying to surround, cut off supply, and all the good to do military tactical stuff. I cannot wait for the other 2 planned releases that are to follow this game. Because of it I now have a new love of wargames, its a little pricey, but worth the money. Be weary of lots of clicking.
Slow paced very hard but a rewarding experience when you succeed.
Would recommend this game for WWII Strategy fans. Has a hard learning curve, but worth checking out.
