The man triumphed over the first Jack with some effort, and trounced the second effortlessly. This Jack – the third one – however, was different. He looked slightly better than the first two, sounded noticeably different, and was snarkier and more snide.
The man, overconfident from his encounter with the second Jack, was thrown off his game by the third Jack’s steadfast confidence. This Jack’s irreverence, snide, and challenges slowly wore the man down.
Jack humbled the man, but thankfully not easily. The man, undeterred, regained his composure and answered another call for challenge. He will harness his years of life experience and training to prove he knows Jacks!
And humbled Jack the man did in his second attempt, and he did so resoundingly. The third Jack, weakened from his challenge with the man, uttered wearily, “This is not over. There is a fourth Jack, and he’ll take you on a ride of your life.”

Paid for it....Loving it always!!!! High culture, Pop culture, and my culture... Major collision!
This game is nostalgic if you're in your 40s or 50s. And that means it's nostalgic to me! Still fun, some facts are outdated, but just put your brain back like it's 1997 or 1998 and you'll be fine. Play "Steal My Sunshine" by LEN beforehand to get pumped up. Enjoy!
Good things about YDKJ 3:
- Cookie is the host
- New question types (3-Way, Impossible Question)
Please play, you're breaking Cookie's heart. :(
I remember this game from years ago. 1,2 and 3 of the series were the ones I had. still entertaining to this day
One of the best volumes, (besides the next volume, THE RIDE) this game is recommended for fans of trivia, or the best host in the whole series, Cookie Masterson.
I like this. Fun little quiz game with lots of narration and tacky graphics.
Pros
- lots of topics
- different question types like multiple choice, matching, typing
- punny
- streams well for 2 players over zoom, just share the screen and allow remote control
- multiplayer locally on one keyboard
Cons
- fixed resolution, but at least it's full screen with no scaling issues
- handful of American trivia
- graphics haven't aged well
TIP: Some questions require you to hit the letter assigned to your character shown on the screen. In multiplayer hit the letter to select the player, then the number of the answer.
I used to play this game and all the other parts when they originally came out back in the good old days. Back then all the parts, including this one, used to have a fantastic German version that was just hilarious and brilliantly done. Unfortunately, for some weird reason, the German version was cut away on all parts you get on Steam, including this Vol. 3.
This is a shame and makes this game incomplete.
In English though, it is fantastically entertaining like the previous parts. Perfect for parties or to kill time on Christmas ;)
I'm afraid, as much as I love this series, I have to give a "thumbs down" though, because for me there's missing a crucial bit.
great game lots of fun and puns. trivia with a twist
It's a game that has been around for a long time, and has managed to keep it's humor for several years.
Awesome Game. This game was a part of my childhood growing up when I had the original CD-ROM for my PC. I definitely recommend this to party gamers everywhere that loves silly trivia games.
The audio production was done really well for this game and very involved. I wish they would have done a visual RE-MAKE when they relaunched this. Aside from that, it brings me back to the early days. NOT A GAME FOR KIDS. But still fun!
Easily the best of the early games by far. Played this game for hours and hours when I was younger and still absolutely holds up today even if it's more dated than it used to be.
I have always loved the You Don't Know Jack franchise. It's one of the few quiz games I can actually sometimes answer!!
This one is pretty great because it easily carries over to Linux, if you happen to get stuck with a Linux system.
I can't remember what it was that I payed for it, but it's totally worth it. =)
I love this game! I have wonderful memories of playing this with my Mom and the steam re-release doesn't disappoint. While I say "re-release", nothing has changed - it's just been updated to run on modern operating systems (I'm on Windows 10.)
This is the first appearance of the original, the start of it all, the MC, the legend, COOKIE MASTERSON. Previously just a producer, Cookie hits the big time and (almost) never leaves the seat...kind of like Johnny Carson.
This "third time is the charm" game improves on old favorite question types like "dis or dat" and adds one of my favorites, the three-way. Yes, the adult and snarky and political undertones continue, but I didn't get them when I was in junior high - (mostly) too smart and subtle for that. The categories are smarter and more fun to choose from than ever...like an intelligent feast in a candy store.
For new players, this is very much a computer game - not a controller or mouse game, Multi-player is done via a shared keyboard and there are fill-in-the-blank questions where you, yes, have to type (it's pretty forgiving on typos, tho.) This is in many ways a nice reminder of old style multiplayer...you get creative with seating.
This is also a blast to play solo. You get lots of teasing.
When you first launch, the screen will seem very small. An easy fix:

While the initial white box won't be full screen, it will quickly flip to full screen. Don't worry, you haven't changed your desktop resolution, and once you quit the game everything will go back to normal. Problem solved!
Volume 3 was the first YDKJ game I experienced (as a demo in a disc lost a long time ago). I just can't remember how many long afternoons and nights were spent with this timeless classic. It's one of those games that looks deceptively simple but ends trapping you within its complex instances of verbal abuse, sarcasm and overall wittiness.
And the wrong answer triggers... Just priceless, as well as a trademark of the whole series. Cookie FTW!
Extremely recommended, even for playing against yourself and ranting at the screen when you get those Impossible Questions wrong.
Chronogically speaking, this is the eighth iteration of You Don't Know Jack. Compared to the previous entries of the series, the artstyle has taken a noticeably more chic look, evocative of a '70s style. This is accentuated by the new question type, the Three Way. Unlike the focused entries of the series (e.g., Sports), this is worthy to stand on its own merits. Comedy and trivia combine to make a good party game or individual test of knowledge. Whether you buy it solo or in the Classic Pack, it's a good investment.
If you ever played YDKJ on Playstation 1, this is the game it's based off of. Protip: Go find the EXE and set it to XP compatibility mode with forced fullscreen 640x480.
Also, this game is completely incompatible with Steam controllers. If you have a living room setup, I hope you have a wireless keyboard.
This game was my childhood and it is still just as fun today. I love Cookie (the host) and all of his crazy antidotes. If you want a crazy, party type, quiz show game, this is for you. It's even fun to play alone.
I think this was the firstYDKJ game I ever played. There was a demo for it on a pinball game I had. My preteen self having never seen anything like this before loved the crap out of the hillarity. Never managed to buy the actual game untill now :)
The first version in the series with some major changes and new features. New questions, new modes (like three way bonus), new jokes, and they even freshened up the paint on this one.
