Super Mega Space Blaster Special was created by one person, half of Bare Knuckle Development, Ste Wilson. As the game is made by a solo developer don't expect triple A standards, mind-blowing graphics or a massive in depth story. A modern take on the retro arcade shoot 'em up (shmup). Super Mega Space Blaster Special is an addictive, fast-paced space shooter with bullet hell elements. Blast your way through 3 modes; managing fuel and ammo to get to the big-boss in 'Survival Mode', protecting your mothership from damage in 'Protect Mother Mode', and blasting your friends into space dust in the local competitive multiplayer 'To The Death Mode'.
Play with a friend in local coop and work together to take out the aliens. Collect coins to unlock more space blasters and get higher scores. Use each space blaster's strengths to your advantage from turrets that allow twin stick control, to fast manoeuvrable ships that can outrun your foes. Arm yourself to the teeth with awesome power-ups like big-bombs, homing missiles and lasers. Destroy the alien boss and continue the endless gameplay to rack up a massive score and become the ultimate space blaster pilot and top the leaderboards.
- Fast-paced addictive shmup gameplay with bullet hell elements.
- 3 play modes give varied gameplay and replay-ability. From the struggle for fuel and ammo in 'Survival Mode' (coop or single player), to the battle to keep your mother-ship in one piece in 'Protect Mother' (coop or single player), to the frantic race to wipe out your opponent in the local multiplayer mode - 'To The Death' (2 player only).
- Play alone in single player or with a friend in local coop or local competitive multiplayer.
- Collect coins to unlock all 10 space blasters (ships) each with their own percs. From fast ships for darting around to slower ships that allow precision aiming.
- Some space blasters have turrets turning the game into a twin-stick shooter.
- Loads of awesome power-up weapons to help you take down your enemies including lasers, homing missiles, and multi-shot.
- Collectables to aid you in your mission. Big-bombs wipe-out nearby enemies, shields help you survive longer, and magnets drag fuel and ammo towards you.
- Endless high-score chasing gameplay with over 15 enemies and a boss for those who can score high enough (gameplay continues after the boss).
- Full joypad (controller) support including button images for Xbox controllers, PlayStation 4 (DualShock 4) controllers, and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers.
- Keyboard remapper with 2 bindings per action and restore default keyboard bindings button for easy reset.
- Over 20 in-game challenges to help you gain coins and develop your space blaster piloting skills.
- More than 20 Steam achievements.
- Simple hand-drawn art-style allows you to easily pick out the foes amongst the asteroids.
- Inspired by both games of yesteryear like Asteroids, Super Fantasy Zone, and Galaga, and modern games like Bit Blaster XL and Super Stardust HD.
- Compete to be the greatest space blaster pilot in the Steam Leaderboards.
- Cross platform 'Steam Cloud' support.
- Play along to the pumping 80s inspired synth-pop original soundtrack by Electric Fan Death. Soundtrack and cover included as free DLC.
The year is 2051, the Earth is in ruin; a barely inhabitable polluted mess of smog and tar. A huge unmanned spaceship, launched by mankind years earlier as a last ditch attempt to survive, has found a possible inhabitable planet and is under attack from its residents.

From earth you must remotely control one of the giant ship's space blasters and annihilate the alien threat so that humanity can continue. The survival of human kind is in your hands pilot. Don't let us down!
We are a small video game development studio of two people based in Manchester, United Kingdom. Whilst working on a bigger game (The Flawless: Art's Tale) for console and PC we took a month long break to make this game. When designing Super Mega Space Blaster Special we wanted to make a game that had that fun retro feeling of playing couch coop and competitive games with your mates or trying to get your name in an arcade game's leaderboard.
We also wanted to make sure the game offered great value for money and was fun to play, giving that urge for 'just one more go'. Very fun little local co-op game. Fun for family time or hanging with friends.
I'm kinda surprised how little attention this games has at the time of reviewing. It's not revolutionary by any means, but it's arguably as good, if not slightly better, than other similar, more popular games on steam. (Don't worry Super Bit Blaster, I think you're cool too!) Also, the price is mere pocket change.
If you have a little cash left in your steam wallet sometime, I'd recommend giving this game a go! :)
Fun simple game. Recommended.
There's so many of these space shooters of a similar style on Steam now. Most of them, like this one, come with a very small asking price of 99 cents in the USA. I call them "auto thrust space shooters" because you can't stop in any of them and have to constantly dodge and weave obstacles and bad guys while shooting them.

Most of these "auto thrust space shooters" on Steam are super fun and offer incredible value, and before this game, my two favorites were "Bit Blaster XL" and "Space Mayhem". This game however up's both of those games with even more to offer and a co-op option as well!
I scored this game at a 97% and gave it my "Zaxtor's Indie Gold" award as well as a "Must Buy!" recommendation!
You can't beat the value for a dollar people. Just buy it, have a blast, literally.. and thank me later!

this game is like a retro asteroids, it has three game-modes a limited fuel and ammo, a protect the mother ship, and battle (just competing to protect your own mother ship. the game modes are 2 player, PS4 controller works great for the game, the key-board only ok. the game being just one dollar is a good deal.
pros: local multi player, split screen, offline capable, works with controller's.
cons: your ships can ram each other and make you lose the round. the key-board controls are mediocre (but they do work)
overall worth a buy, so enjoy alone or with a friend :)
Yeah it's a fun game! Quirky at first and you die easily but once you get used to it it's a really fun game.

Awesome space shoot 'em up. A lot of fun to play, even more fun in co-op. Me my girlfriend love playing games like this together, really great with cool music too, worth a lot more than it cost.
Really fun space shooter game. Good to pick up and play when you have a free 10 minutes.
I've played a fair few hours of this game and I'm still loving it.
I like retro games and this gives me the retro feels. It's addictive because it's challenging and you feel like you've earned the achievements.
You can just blast away if you want or you can also follow the challenges and feel like you 'beat' the game...just like the good old days.
There's every reason to buy this game, fun, challenging, good music, varied game play and great value for money :)
A Gem..
Good little asteroid blaster ,old school retro style arcade shooter.
The game is challenging and fun with two player shared screen.
The best part is trying to avoid each other while blasting asteroids Missiles and space ships of sorts.
I had a great laugh playing with a friend as we crash into one another lol. Great fun.
There are 3 modes at this point , Defend mother ship, survival, and 1v1 (i think)
I played the defend and survival modes , Both are great games to play, where in survival you just try to
stay alive as long as you can while you run out of ammo and fuel , as the ship constantly fires for you.
The ship is in a constant state of forward motion but you have a break and a boost .
I haven't really got very far yet but i'm enjoying what i have .
Its a real blast you cant go wrong if you like space invader types.
The Dev's are very much active and are always willing to listen and try solve and help with any problems.

Great space shooter, lot's of fun and lots to do.
You collect coins to unlock ships, each ship is different, some have guns that face forward some have turrets, that you can control with the right analogue stick on a pad or a mouse, and some have both. Loads of fun in co-op and I finally made it to the boss in co-op and I'm now determined to defeat it.
Well worth the money and has a lot of life for such a cheap game.
Fun little space shooter that I will keep coming back to. It's like Bit Blaster XL on steroids, loads of stuff to do and some cool ships to unlock. Really fun in co-op, gives me that retro feeling of playing games in the living room with mates. Unlocking the third ship gave me a turret which made the game a twin stick shooter, really cool. Works well with the PlayStation 4 DS4 joypad. Definitely a steal for the few pence it cost. Highly recommended!
