this is such a fun game i would like it to have more though
It's a great game and i'm really enjoying it, but the main character is so annoying with her constant talking!! It'd be good to have an option to limit the talking, especially since a lot of it isn't necessary after the first go
Look, its a great idea...
Only I was under the premise of being able to have more control. I understand the sled being controlled by shouting command to the dog, that makes sense. My issue is that I was expecting the hunting and foraging to be done by me leaving the sled and to be in control while I'm off the sled. Like an open world kinda thing. Instead its either a cutscene or a quicktime event. The whole game kind of just felt like a mobile game right off the bat and really isn't even worth the $5 I spent on it. But thats the thing, I got it on sale so usually they charge $25 for what is essentially a mobile game.
If you want an "outdoorsy" game I'd suggest Firewatch
This game is absolutely so fun! It was so interesting, and can really catch a animal lovers eyes. You get to choose your own path, and fate. It would be nice if there just were MORE options at the end, such as playing frisbee, really dressing up your pups, and i'd love to takeout my buddies on a nice walk! With these small details it could really make the game pop. For the people who made this game, you really did an awesome job! Thank you for this, and you must make more games like this. Never let bad reviews and comments take you guys down, just learn and improve from them!
I love this game DEARLY the gameplay is something i love, each dog is so cutely characterised, the voice acting is top tier, and the atmosphere is wonderful. The art style is gorgeous with a painterly look. I love everything about this game and definitely recommend picking up a copy!!
Honestly the game just bored me with the way it was set up, it got repetitive very fast and tbh the main character annoyed the hell out of me. i feel like it would be way more fun if you actually got to control your sled fully, not just by choosing left and right.
Absolutely beautiful game. Wonderful story and never a dull moment. I love all the different personalities of the dogs and it made me so happy when I found out I could go back and get the babies I missed once reaching the cabin! They're all so cute with their little accessories and their stories are so fun to complete. Noodle's is my favourite. 100% recommend this amazing game!!!! Play it!!
I have fallen in love with this game, in fact it's one of my favorite games now, and I love the storyline of it. I would most definitely recommend playing this game.
This game is very cozy and quite a one of a kind. If you finish your first round you can always start a new story or continue running and finding new things all over the map.
10/10 experience so far, recommend for everyone. wouldnt pay full price tho (bought it at 5$)
I like the game, but their needs to be updates and add on's to it. You get board after awhile playing the same thing and making it to the finish of the house.
never fails to make me happy
I LOVETHIS GAME SO MUCH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOOOF.
fun sled game
Bing bong ding dong
Super fun and relaxing game! Can just sit back and enjoy. Dogs are cute and i like the events and the dog stories we get to do. I just wish that after finishing the game (completely), there would still be something for us to do other than trying to complete the journal. The game also felt a lot more challenging at the start, but then it got so easy you didn't have to worry about anything.
Also the DAMN FISH ROD ! I still haven't gotten it with my 12 hours of gameplay, like what gives? :D
I have tried so many runs but i don't seem to get it? Is that a bug or? I have almost finished my journal completely and not a single time i've had the opperttunity to get one yet, which i find extremely odd.
A fun little roguelike that feels a bit repetitive on subsequent runs, but the short run time makes it so the game doesn't overstay it's welcome.
While there isn't a LOT of gameplay, it's an enjoyable experience in a pretty landscape.
I uninstalled this game quickly and here's why.
I played up till the first camp setup and have had a huge issue with the lack of interactivity in this game.
When I saw that we have encounters I thought I'd have to look out for them. No, the game slows down and the character verbally says "there's a thing! what should we do?". I want the task of looking out for stuff to be on my hands because then I have an actual reason to look around. It's Alaska, there's nothing to see. My eyes aren't given a task and it draws me out of the game. This all could be fixed by making the player have to be active.
All of the dog's info was given at the very start. Why? I don't remember a single thing about Barkley because his entire lore was dropped at our first interaction. During this interaction the main character does feel very alive which I like but I also do not have the patience to sit through so much dialogue when nothing is happening on screen. Some of this information should be given to me when I set up camp. That would space things out and give me time to actually get attached to these dogs. Speaking of getting attached...
The first thing I did when I opened the game was check the setting because I expected it to be too loud. It wasn't too loud but I did notice what was at the very top of the settings: "Allow dog death" my response was "The dogs can die?". Some advice for anybody making a game with intense game beats like those: Don't spoil your own game. Now I missed out on genuinely being worried about what happens when a dog gets too injured. Fear of the unknown would layer on top of the tense situation. This is the kind of setting you give to the player after they've suffered once so that they don't remove that portion of the game for themselves or you could lock it behind another tab in the settings with a popup that says "Reading these settings may give you information about the game. You have been warned if you wish to play the game blindly." Then you could have something flash next time you enter a menu (after a dog dies) saying "You can stop this from happening again in the forbidden settings!" and if you're feeling really generous you can let the player revive the dog.
Finally the art style. The dog's faces are unsettling. There's something wrong with them and I can't tell what. I love everything else visually though. I understand it is hard to make snowy plains look interesting so I don't plan on ripping into that. The dog's fur looks oddly like feathers for some reason but I still like that. The clipping can be very obvious sometimes. My biggest issue with the game's visuals is the limited view of it the player is allowed. When the player sets up camp they should be free to move and feel free. They are already given freedom of movement when getting onto the sled so the mechanics do exist within the game. If the player was able to move the dogs could react to the player. What if some of the dogs got excited when approached or their focus snapped to the player. Each dog could have their own little way of reacting to the player.
Overall, I don't like this game because it isn't very interactive.
i love it iggy is sooo cute
Although the game's art style is adorable, and the dogs even more so, it was extremely frustrating at times because I needed to replay from the very beginning so many times simply because I ran out of bullets or food. If I'm being honest it probably took me 8 tries before I could reach the end (the second to last time I was extremely close but got killed by a bear). If you don't mind having to replay events over and over again, then this game would probably be fine. It's not free-roam so you're restricted to a lot of cut-scenes. It builds off of the experience you gain throughout the game, so if you find a fire starter while playing, the next time you die and restart from the beginning, you'll have that item to start with. This is a pretty cool concept but overall a little inconvenient for how easily you can end up dying in this game.
its so cute and fun
A very fun, interesting game with cute little stories. 10/10 recommnd for people who likestory-based games.
This is a great game and I would totally recomend it to anyone who plays
This is a great, relaxed game to play casually. I really enjoyed the stress free, multiple choice story line and beautiful graphics, however The Red Lantern may be less suited to those who enjoy more customizable, difficult, and less repetitive games. I think that the variety of choices and outcomes are enough to keep the it interesting, however one you have played through the game a few times it does become a lot easier and predictable. I love all of the dogs, and I would 100% recommend this cosy game to anyone who likes slow-paced, easy, cute, cosy games.
I bought this game on sale for $5. I think it is worth that price, I would not pay anymore than $10-15, though. The graphics are cute, and the gameplay is interesting, but not worth the $25 normal price. Can be frustrating at first but as you fail runs you learn more and have more supplies to start with. I failed the first four or five runs I believe before I completed the trail and made it to the cabin. All subsequent runs have succeeded.
The pups are down right adorable and they won my heart. I'm sure they'll win yours aswell.
ONLY if you can stand having to redo progress. i played yesterday and completed stiltion, bodgeas stories, went back to the cabin, it showed it saved, i quit. when i logged in today i have not completed bodgea and stiltions stories... i still have the achivement for it. but in game on my one and only save i dont have it done.
also where is the racing? im fully expecting a sled dog race, im almost done with everyones story but there is no race option? this was a big part of the game for me...

fantastic survival games with a lot of pups by ur side
can get a tad bit repetitive but it's a beautiful game and has a wonderful story.
Have played for nearly 20 hours, still have not gotten the fishing pole, done 2 different playthroughs, cannot get all achivements.
i love dogs
i had alot of hope for this game and it is very well done but very very difficult, i finally managed to get a fishing pole, flint and steel, and an axe, and reach the cabin, i went to adopt stilton, all of thise took me awhile to get, when i made it to the cabin and my notebook pulled up my game suddenly reset and i lost everything and i was back to learning how to play at the biginners tutorial, i have a full recording, im not sure what kind of bug this is but this bug has caused me to not want to play the game and delete it
Get on discount.
Obviously the dogs are cute, but once I 100% the game I can't imagine replaying it.
Just to 'beat' the game a single time you already need to do multiple runs, because the game just does not give you enough supplies to win at first. Basically every failed run you restart and have a few more supplies, or if you were lucky enough to find one, a tool. However, I haven't failed a single run since I managed to beat one. Other annoying things:
- The dialogue, it isn't bad inherently, but your character will repeat a lot of stuff over and over, and along with the animations it can really start to drag.
- RNG encounters, some encounters are up to chance, this would be fine, but again runs can drag on and to fill the journal you need to see specific events that you can just miss.
- Dog Stories, the dogs each have a story to complete, but you'll basically only complete one dog's story per run, these reset between run if not completed, so your first few runs don't help this and you can't clear multiple dogs in a single run, so even more time.
- Gameplay, some of your choices in encounters do matter, but the actual sledding is automatic. The game lets you lean, but this literally does nothing. There are shooting and fishing mechanics, but these are really simple. Also whenever you interact with something in the camp it takes forever for the reticle to come back.
The good:
- Dogs, they have fun stories and personalities
- Art, the game looks really nice, the environments are nice, and I'm pretty sure where you are on the map actually changes your surroundings.
- For some, the lack of skill required could be a draw, and it is definitely easy to just sit back and chill.
Good game with the bestest boys.
D'ya Like Dags?
love this game! The colours are so gorgious and the story is amazing. very cute!
Good game for people who love dogs. Wish there were more dogs to pick form and more interactive stories cause after a while of playing you start to hear the same lines over again. I also wish there were more maps and places to go and things to do after you complete the game.
Rejecting a puppy was the hardest and most hard breaking decision I ever made
Cute game.
The dogs are cute and well animated and each have their own little personality.
However you can lose this game simply because RNG screws you over and doesn't give you any birch, med packs or bullets. It takes several runs to get the tools you need to actually make it to the cabin. Because our character is an idiot didn't think to bring any non perishable food and only one med pack to go sledding through the wilderness. Didn't even think to bring a box of matches.
It's not a game of survival it's a game of will the game let you finish.
You can find a fire starter which means you will no longer need the birch but again, finding it is completely up to RNG. The devs had to purposely make it so you had to restart your runs multiple times just to boost total playtime hours.
Expect to starve your first few runs because every encounter will make you hungrier for some reason, even just going to go look a squirrel makes you as hungry as shooting a caribou. Only good news if you lose a run you still keep all the tools you have found so far.
You can find a fishing pole but there is no way to actually fish when you want, you'll fish when the game says you can fish.
If you can get this game on a huge discount, it is cute to watch the dogs run through the snow. But there is not enough content to justify full price. You don't even get to drive the sled yourself, the game moves it for you, you just wait for prompts to pop up and click one. That's the game.
I'm marking my review positive simply because it is cute and I did feel I got $7 worth of content. I have been eyeing this game, saw it was finally on sale and got it. If I had paid full price I would have been very dissapointed.
Buy on sale only.
this was such a fun game there's lots of replay ability if you liked the games firewatch or road 96 you'll enjoy this one.
cute game except you hunt and get killed a lot...BUT THE DOGS ARE CUTE :D
Full disclosure I had not seen anything about this game before buying, just the steam store trailer.
This is a cute little game, but I completed it in under 2 hours. Thankfully I bought it on sale but still £4 for two hours of game play that was not very replay-able was very disappointing.
There are elements here I really like, and I’ve wanted to see a sledge dog team game for ages. But I imagined a more ‘long dark’ esq game and this has very little freedom. Its still a sweet story and quite beautiful, but I could not imagine paying £20 for so little content.
i wish there was a dlc for more dogs, would buy
This game is pretty zen, and it tells the story of a lady who leaves her old life behind with her dog to become a sled dog racer. You follow her story and build up a team and go through training runs, but first you have to make it home.
It's not a very involved game. You don't steer the team you just decide to go left or right at checkpoints, but I like that as the visuals are quite pleasant to look at. The fun comes from completing the story of each dog and crossing your fingers that RNG is on your side. The game can become a grind, especially when trying to fill your journal. Over all you could probably beat the base game in 3-5 hours. That is completing the story of every dog and depending on if RNG is on your side.
I love the idea behind the game and the dogs are super sweet, I truly got attached to them by the time I finished the game hahah
I Like the games plot. You're In a Dog Race but you get cut off and don't know you're way to your destiation, The Cabin with the Red Lantern!
Nice story, but a bit short.
it's a fun game! there is a lot of repetition, but that comes with choose your own adventure games. i also appreciate that each dog has their own unique design, each dog has a unique frame and face shape, instead of just throwing different colors on one model. it really brings out each of the animals personalities! (which is mainly what the game is about)
This game is amazing, I love the dogs and their personalities and stories! . . . When you want a certain event to happen to fill out the journal that can be a bit difficult and might need a bit of patience, as its super randomized and I think some events might be super broken. If you want to complete this game, you might be out of luck as completing the journal is bugged, it glitches and when you do encounter an event that would fill in the blanks .. it doesn't most times, they may or may not fix this, and those who have completed it don't receive the achievement for some reason.. there's a 1.0% completion for that for a reason. This game has beautiful graphics and a great artstyle, this game would be almost perfect if not for the journal bugs, haha! I recommend getting this game on sale because of the glitches.
