The reason why the French Maginot did not work was not because the French army was out dated or that there was bad commanders. But because Belgium ended there French alliance once they saw the German army in the Rhineland. this made it difficult for the french as they were heavily relying on the plan that if war broke out they could take up defensive positions in Belgium. then when Belgium ended the French alliance it turned there battle plans into a race with the Germans to see who could get to the river first. this made the French army stretched out and unable to cover land properly. so the Germans chose a spot and punched through taking France out of WW2. this was not the fault of the french.
