- WE RECOGNIZE:
-Valve is a company with financial needs and cannot be expected to continuously release huge gameplay changes as free downloadable content without the release of new games.
WE ARE COMMITTED:
-To not condemning nor boycotting the largest fan-friendly gaming companies for (assumingly) making large gameplay changes to the original and not releasing it as a free update.
-To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2 by not displaying a feeling of entitlement to a free copy of L4D2.
WE BELIEVE:
-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming, if there's a boycott.
-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 will make Left 4 Dead a seemingly obsolete purchase to those that don't take gameplay hours into account.
WE REQUEST:
-That this boycott nonsense stops.
Will you feel accomplished if Valve meets these demands of yours? Will you feel like you've won? What pattern will we see afterwards if you do? Not only will designers and developers feel the pressure from their publishers, but now we might be to blame for terrible games. We did not ask Valve to rush the sequel and offer more joy. We did not ask Valve to give us free TF2 updates. We did not ask Valve for The Orange Box. No, we did not ask for any such things, they offered them to us and we bought and played them with great relish.
The fact is, we have faith in Valve delivering a product worth it's salt. So go on and argue about the "promises" Valve made with L4D1. You don't know whether or not they were going to fulfill them regardless of your demands. You don't know how Valve was going to price L4D2. Hell, Valve could of easily stripped it of it's status as a sequel, and priced it as a $20 expansion, and you would have bought it and LOVED it. We of this group pledge to buy L4D2 (funds permitting), and play the ever loving crap out of it.
You know, if it's a good game of course. Otherwise we'd just be pissed we spent any amount of money on it.
I guess what we're saying is it better be good. *collectively shaking our fists*
*we know the boycott boycott makes no sense, so sue us*
