The game is super short with only 5 stages (15-30min each), so skip this one unless it's 80-100% on sale. After finishing this, it will tell you to continue with 'Gungrave U.N.', wich only has 3 additional stages.
It looks great on the store videos but believe me, if you play it it's not that cool (blame the controllers).
Sad to write this coming from XSeed.
Pros:
Graphics
Cons:
-Short.
-Controllers are awful (you can play with a gamepad but not with the native Oculus controller support, you have to aim with your head).
-Mediocre music.
-No real story.
I forbid you to buy this garbage.
Controls wont work on oculus quest 2 , Not even using virtual desktop or the community tutorials. Waiting for valve to make a VR system more affordable.
I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
Feels significantly clunkier than the ps2 games and the VR implementation in this is pretty awful. Since it was made for psvr you have to aim by moving your head which is not kind on your neck, merciful then that it's like an hour long at most I guess. The levels and bosses are all pretty underwhelming and the first person segments are more annoying than cool. Unless you're really a diehard fan of the series and it's on sale for dirt cheap I wouldn't recommend it, and even then it's not really worth it, pretty much adds nothing to the story and the world.
Ah, good ol' Gungrave... Sure, it wasn't the best game series on PlayStation 2, but thanks to its awesome design (the characters were created by Naitō Yasuhiro-sensei, creator of Trigun, while robots were designed by Fujishima Kōsuke-san, who's well known for his work on Sakura Taisen series), tons of action and unique dark setting, it was really hard to forget. As the result, it even ended up as one of those games that got anime adaptations. Unfortunately, after the sequel called Gungrave: Overdose, our old pal Beyond the Grave appeared only in a crossover game Chaos Wars, in which he met characters from Growlanser, Shadow Hearts and Spectral Souls. Aside from that, Gungrave series and its undead protagonist stayed dead (ah, the irony...). Until not so long ago when proper sequel called Gungrave G.O.RE. Gunslinger Of REsurrection was finally announced for PlayStation 4. And to make things even better for old fans, two prologues were released for VR headsets, including PlayStation VR and Steam VR.
Unfortunately, the first thing you'll notice here is that... there isn't much story here, really. Grave is there. Mika is there. Jyuji and Rocketbilly are not. Some people are producing Seed drug. Seed is bad. So, go and shoot something maybe? That's pretty much it. Which makes this title completely useless as a prologue to the new game. Also, you can beat the entire thing in about forty minutes and they ask $24.99 / £19.99 for it. That's right, twenty five bucks for forty minutes of gameplay, during which you'll beat a short series of tiny little levels and unlock a new skin. That's right, there's only one skin to unlock and then that'll be it. There's nothing else to do in this game. No extra modes, no challenges, nothing. Heck, there isn't even enough achievements (never thought I'll ever say that).
And you know what? It's a freakin' shame. Because gameplay itself? It's pretty cool, really. Even though motion controls aren't supported and the only way to play this game is by using the gamepad, it's a pretty fun experience. Bosses are interesting and require some tactics, you'll be able to use different kinds of attacks (including a special move), sometimes the game will switch from tradition Gungrave's third person view to the first person and become more like a shooting gallery, which is also fun to be a part of, etc, etc, etc.
Unfortunately, it's really hard to consider Gungrave VR as a real deal. It feels like short demo of some pretty neat VR game. Only you need to pay for it quite a lot. So, even though I really want to give this one a thumb up to motivate the XCEED to bring Gungrave G.O.RE. to Steam (the guys didn't even play that greedy this time and gave us the original Japanese voices as an option, which usually doesn't happen in the games they publish and even Gungrave: Overdose publishers went with “English dub only” policy), I think it'll be unfair for my friends and everybody who'll ever read this review. Gungrave VR is cool, but way too short and way too limited to even bother. With 80% off, it'll worth adding it to your library, but even then, it'll be just something to play for half of an hour when you'll get some free time on your hands. You beat something real, but it's a bit too early to go to bed? You may as well beat this one. You want a proper game to enjoy for at least a couple of hours? Look somewhere else. Dixi.
GUNGRAVE ps2 is better -_-
It's decent, nothing like the original PS2 game but it's still fun.
The only downside is that it's only 2 hours long (at best) so yeah it's extremely short.
