Fuck yeah !
That is pure gold, imma get me a jerkin' now !
More seriously, it's pretty short and linear BUT besides South Park and The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk it's the funniest game i've played to date. Probably the best indie game i've played to date !
Gave me a lot of good laughs. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to playing the sequel (I got the game but haven't played it yet) and I hope the creators will consider making a longer game that's also in this kind of RPG style!
Short and Sweet. and STRAIGHT to the point in more ways than one. It had me Laughing WAY more than i should have been.
After playing 'Quiver Dicks Terrible Tale for Terrible Parents to Tell Their Equally Terrible Children' I ended up buying this game and the bundle and this was the first I played. I ultimately enjoyed this game and every 'map' had something unique that either gave me a laugh or referenced something I could relate to.
Song references exist in this game and they truly make this game amazing to play through and I found myself talking to everyone just to see if they made some reference.
10/10
This beautiful instalment, in the ever evolving Crankage and Red Mouse games Bundle was an absolute blast! Mature, Guided, Hilarious Adventure RPG that will have you in tears. Great for your community to watch while you stream and all of these games are NOT against T.O.S so you're good to go! Highly recommended 10/10 from The Lions Den!
The Chronicles of Quiver Dick tells a very linear and short story of a retired adventurer with a healthy dose of self-referential humour. The combat system while simple, is surprisingly difficult and might even veer towards being tedious if the game was not so short. I would hesitate to recommend this game however, as it does go off in several tangents during conversations with NPCs which may very well be steeped with references that I failed to understand.
The Chronicles of Quiver Dick offers original humor and lots of chuckles over the course of two hours of "RPG" adventuring. A strong entry in the comedy RPG Maker genre.
I got this game on sale for $2.39, and I feel it's a little expensive for what it is. Still worth picking up though.
If you want a quick game that full of funny, crude and brilliant humor, please don't pass this game over. With a little over an hour of playtime, Chronicles of Quiver Dick is well written and leaves with you a desire for more (which, yes, you can get from the following game). The less than subtle nods to recently lost rock artists was a fantastic touch as well. I hope to see more from this series in the future!
This game was hilarious. The game ran smooth, the story was funny and engaging, and made myself and my viewers laugh so much. It is not a game for anyone who finds themselves prudish or with a desire to play something serious. I would recommend this to anyone who has a crude sense of humor and just wants to enjoy some great visuals. GG Crankage Games!
A short but fantastic game full of humour (some lurid, some just cheesy), song references, great story and characters, and a fully enjoyable experience overall. For the price it’s a no-brainer if you enjoy JRPG-style games.
From a purely gaming stand point this game is about as old school classic RPG as you can get. Battle system is turn base, music is a little old school meets new, dialogue system is all written (which I prefer so I can give characters my own voices), and when not in battle all walking around is the classic topdown view from other old school type RPGs like Chrono Trigger (my personal favorite) and Secret of Mana.
The story though that is (how best to describe this) D&D meets Deadpool meets National Lampoon with a splash of Final Fantasy for good measure. The tongue and cheek comedy mixed in with the plentiful inuendoes (whether in dialogue or just someone's name) will make you laugh whether you want to or not.
Throw in more classic RPG elements (items, weapons, quests, and armor) and you have the makings of an outstanding game and hopefully a continuing franchise. If any of that even remotely peaked your interest then I highly recommend picking this up. I got it when it was on sale but I would still of picked it up had I known sooner what I was in for if I had gotten it for 2 or even 3 times the amount that I originally got it for.
Do yourself a favor and if you have even 1 iota of a funny bone in you pick this game up. You won't be dissapointed.
I'm not quite sure how to explain why I am recommending this game. I bought it on a whim. It isn't a pricey game. I have so many games that are so INVOLVED, practically a career's worth of work in each; I just wanted something light.
Soon after I started the game, some of the dialogue made me wince and wonder if I'd made a mistake. I said to myself, "Self, you wanted something different, so just go with it."
So, I kept going.
I'm glad I did. I did find myself entertained. That was really all I was looking for.
Yes, it is on the juvenile side.
And, some of the fights are too long/more a chore than adding to the adventure, but they don't happen too often and you do get through them.
There is something good about the way it has been assembled together. Like there is a diamond in the rough behind it.
This is like something your friend made and it is charming and you want to encourage them.
I don't know the people involved in creating this, and I rarely write reviews, but the fact they've inspired me to write a review in hopes of encouraging them, I think that soundly explains my recommending The Chronicles of Quiver Dick.
So maybe try it and do like I did and just go with it.
first i played „metal as p.h.u.k“ (check it out if you havent already, its from the same devs) and it was a REALLY great game.
In that game there is a dude namend „quiver d.i.c.k“ and hes a fun dude.. but why is he called that you ask?
Well thats why we´re here....this is the tale of quiver d.i.c.k.
This game is full of easter eggs, funny little details and great music . If you are into metal music this game will please you even more.!
Check it out dudes its worth it!
ps: the sloppy eggplant is your best friend! trust me
pps: steam doesnt allow some words, sooooo thats why i put some extra dots
This Game..........
Is AWESOME.
Soundtrack is great, level design is good, but more importantly the storyline is really fantastic.
10/10 this needs to be turned into a movie.
I had so many laughs and so much fun playing this game.
This is the kind of game you play where you sit back after a long day at work, have a beer, and casually have some laughs.
scratch that.... A lot of laughs.
I loved this game.
For real, one of the best games I've played this year.
it wont last 50 hours, you will complete it in one go, but its not quantity, that matters, ill take quality any day of the week.
The Chronicles of Quiver Dick is the second game released by Crankage Games (the first being Metal as Phuk, which I enjoyed). If you've never played Metal as Phuk, then it's important to know that this developer isn't so worried about people getting offended and revels in crass humor. So, if you can get behind that, then diving in will reveal another fun and irreverent adventure in what I expect to be a long running series of games from Crankage.
Story
The Chronicles of Quiver Dick is meant to be the first in a series of short stories told by Quiver Dick. This one functions as part of his origin story, wherein he meets his wife for the first time. It is presented as a grandfather telling his grandchildren a story about his past. However, as you will find out later, this is no ordinary family, lol. Beyond that, this is a story of pop culture memes.
7/10
Gameplay
The gameplay in Chronicles of Quiver Dick is pretty classic RPG Maker JRPG fare as far as combat goes. There is zero grinding in this game, which I appreciate. Everything is pretty linear overall, which sort of nullifies the RPG aspect, but really, that design decision is purposeful and works perfectly for this game. You will be overpowered pretty much throughout the game, but since this really takes on the persona of a visual novel rather than an RPG, I'd say that also works. It's not challenging, but the fights are still fun regardless (especially since there will be amusing commentary throughout the fights). I experienced zero technical issues with this and everything functioned as intended.
8/10
Graphics
The graphics are literally RPG Maker style, and so I think you already know what to expect. However, the character and level designs also happen to make sense, which isn't common in many of this game's peers. A quality effort with a fari amount of diversity.
7/10
Audio
The audio in TCoQD are on point, which I expected going in. I was obviously not disappointed. The various music tracks in this game are pretty stellar. Not once did I hear anything I didn't like, and many could easily go into a playlist for jamming while driving or what have you.
9/10
Verdict
The Chronicles of Quiver Dick was a fun first entry into this particular Crankage Games story line. I enjoyed the pace and appreciated it's shorter length. A nice experience, and a solid way to spend and afternoon while still having time to make dinner afterwards. :)
@Crankage: Also, thanks for the memorials. I thought those to be a nice touch in the game. The shout outs (so to speak) to fans of MaP was likewise cool.
7.5 metal riffs playing through a hybrid modern/medieval society out of 10 possible.

Short, Sweet, Funny as Hell and Hits like a Truck!
I honestly hate RPG Maker games, Steam is littered with quick spit cash grabs but Crankage Games shows how good the system really can be. Combat in this game is challenging, its not a very long game at all, but I think it is meant to to be episodic, which will be really bad ass in my opinion.
The writing is tight, very funny Dialogue and the references to the YouTube gaming community are beautiful as are the Metal Culture references. I think about everyone gets a nod in this game, Hell, "I" am even in the game in a cameo (no I didnt get the copy for free, I bought it like everyone else). Point is, the game, is fun, funny and a great starting point for a series of adventures, forth wall breaks and mayhem!
I always resented the churn out RPG maker games, this is NOT one of those. This game is well balanced, music is Beast and you will crawl a little for that end reward. So, if like me you see the RPG maker style and think about passing on, Stop!! The Chronicles of Quiver Dick is so worth your time, and the Devs earned the support.
This is a quick, enjoyable story game. I would not call it an RPG by any means, because you don't really have any choices to make. You follow the story, fight a few monsters, and laugh along the way.
There are only two weapons you can find, small upgrades to your base weapon. Your real damage is from your skills, though, that you automatically get when you level up. There are no choices when it comes to skills. You get a new one almost every time you level up. And, a few of the skills you will never even use, mainly the one that cures your ailments/debuffs. Debuffs in this game only last for one round of combat for some reason, then they're gone. So, there is no use to your cure skill or your cure potions. Healing and more MP is another thing. You will use these all the time.
The combats are fairly long, I think mainly because the game is so short and there are so few combats. Each one is unique and scripted with dialogue, so that's pretty cool. But, overall the combat is not difficult.
The story is amusing, and I look forward to more chronicles from these guys. They say their plans are to put a few more out even this year, so they're cranking them out!
Oh yeah . . . the music is pretty damn rockin'. But, the title screen song is freaking brilliant! A wonderful rock ballad for the gaming ages. Listen to it!
No achievements, but hey, the world needs ditch diggers, too!
So, Jake and Elwood give this one a thumbs up for an enjoyable way to spend two to three hours, but a thumbs mildly down for lack of RPGishness.
Let me preface this by saying I love old snes rpgs and crass humour. If you like these things spend the couple bucks and enjoy a couple hours of nostalgia and dick jokes!
I played the first game by Crankage right before this one (Metal as Phuk) and there is a bit of carryover from it, really enjoying it from start to finish.
Chronicles of Quiver Dick is an improvement on many things Metal as Phuk had, the sideview battles are great, names of the attacks and the flavour text with them were really well done!
This is more of a short visual novel with a few battles in between. If you obsessively collect everything from every nook and cranny as i do in these types of rpgs, you will have absolutely no problem getting through on your first go.
Pros
-The humour and dialouge are what make it stand out a bit further than the plethora of RPG maker games, and the story is really just in there for gags and a few laughs!
-Short enough to finish in one sitting
-Interesting battle moves, complete with fun names and good text on all of your character's and all the enemies
-Even with the "samey" rpgmaker textures and sprites, Quiver DIck manages to feel a bit more like it's own thing probably because of it's
-Personality: unrepentantly lowbrow and crass the whole way through, going for every low hanging joke it possibly can, which was probably why i was smirking the whole time!
Cons
-LENGTH i know i know i know there are more chapters of it coming, but i could honestly play the heck out of this game!
-Not much flavour text on the random items like in Metal as Phuk, which i had really enjoyed
-Only play as one character (i had for some reason thought i would be getting a party the whole time!)
I enjoyed Metal as Phuk a great deal, and this is more in the same crude vein, but falls just a little short of the full experience that i was expecting
If you are looking for a clever and humorous RPG story that isn't afraid to use very vulgar language (and names for the characters as well), The Chronicles of Quiver Dick "lets it ALL hang out". It isn't afraid of offending anyone and I like that and also what some people might say is a "crude" sense of humor.
One thing is for sure.. this Crankage Games developer is unique and making some special RPG Maker games that are well worth their asking price. If you like well written adventures, if you like a game having a sense of humor, and the words "PUNT" and "POCK" with the C instead of P won't offend you, definitely jump in head first on this one!
Highly recommended and I look forward to seeing the next game launched by Crankage Games here!
Just like in Metal as Phuk, a lot of the inside jokes went right over my head, but man..... there were a few moments that literally made me laugh out loud. Like... guffaw. It was kind of embarrassing, and my roommate made fun of me. The humor in these games is fantastic, even if you don't like vulgar language, or whatever (but why wouldn't you?)
