Fun programming problems.
This is a great programming game. It gets exceptionally hard on further chapters, to the point where many programming beginners will feel lost, but it has a great concept, funny lore and a mysterious, intriguing subplot. Definitely worth a shot if you're a Zachtronics fan.
Delightfully evil. A Zachlike with flair. Also great fun for math nerds. Buy it.
I don't normally write reviews, but this game is incredibly charming. The gameplay is very similar to Human Resource Machine, however the visual language is replaced with a fantasy Assembly language.
This game is exactly what I was looking for, my only recommendation is that it's made easier to see leaderboards for levels, so that you know which puzzles you still need to improve on (For me it is all of them)
Decent little programming game. Falls short of a true Zachlike in a number of ways (multiple saves, histogram) but otherwise pretty similar gameplay.
Biggest complaint is that debugging is a bear. Breakpoints are fine, but execution won't scroll to show the current instruction so you have to micromanage that. The data cells are insanely small for some puzzles, so you can't clearly see what's happening. There's no option to step backwards from error, so error reproduction is nearly impossible for anything complex that fails way down the line.
I finished it (high praise from me) but it wasn't always as fun as I'd have liked because too much time was spent drilling on hard debugs. It didn't feel like a game challenge, more just a bad interface in that regard. Otherwise, I liked it quite a bit.
I really do like this game. If you're into computer programming you'll like it. Some people have complained about the syntax in the code. Well, that's what assembly looks like, sorry. Yes, having to remember when to use [] and when not to is annoying. Assembly is like that. It seems actually pretty consistent to me. This game probably gets the same critique as all the other programming games: if you aren't already an assembly developer or at least somewhat accomplished in programming then the learning curve is sky high. I actually am a professional developer so I could easily breeze through the first several tasks. The syntax is no problem and now I'm into the game far enough that it's pretty challenging and I have to stop and think of how I would solve the task. It's fun and I wouldn't say too hard but some tasks are a bit of a hit or miss learning curve where you'll end up killing some robots just because you didn't really fully understand what you were doing at first. Poor robots, I've killed a lot.
I actually kind of like this game better than any of the actual Zachtronics games. Those are cool but I feel like Zach tries too hard to railroad you into a solution that is super creative and/or how he wanted you to solve it. I don't always want to come up with a really sneaky solution, sometimes I just want to solve the puzzle. This game lets you do that and rarely would you run into the line limit. Rarely will you run out of registers. I really like that. I can create efficient solutions if I want but I don't HAVE to like you often do in Zachtronics games. But, I do miss some of the competition aspects of those games. I would like to see how my solution stacks up with other people. If someone solved a puzzle in 10 instructions and I used 25 then I want to eventually go back and see if I can do better.
Also, someone mentioned the language in this game. They're right, there's really an excessive use of profanity in game. It doesn't make a lot of sense really. I don't mind so much for myself but if I were trying to introduce a child to programming games I certainly wouldn't pick this one. It seems to be using drugs and profanity to look "cool" but really it just seems like a kind of childish attempt to look edgy and hip. Yes, some offices do have this level of profanity within them. But, it would be perhaps a little more professional for the game developer to either get rid of all the edgy stuff or have an option so parents can turn that stuff off.
All in all, I believe I'd have to say that this is my favorite programming game (and I've bought a lot). And, it's very reasonably priced.
(I played the open source version first before buying the game so I have played the game for hours despite Steam's time played value.)
I enjoy programming and the puzzles in this game were interesting. Some puzzles are probably really difficult for someone without programming experience. The puzzle suggesting linked list in particular strikes me as something regular users would have trouble with. The programming language is very assembly like which is frustrating at times. If you like programming, I recommend the game. If you are not a programmer, I think the game can still be fun but you may need a walkthrough to get through everything, Also debugging the code is just as annoying as debugging programs in real life. So many robots destroyed...
Great programming puzzle game 5/5 . Don't buy if you are stupid, it might be too difficult for you.
ok this is fun. it is challenging and makes you think, but gives you just enough info
in the manual and emails to figure it out. For the price compared to some other similar
titles costing three times more you cant lose IMO. i know i don't have very much play time but
enough to know i'm going to really enjoy this game for quite a while. This is a must buy if you
are really interested in some basic simple programming concepts in game format. what a great way to learn! I hope this company makes more games i'll buy them.
I hate how Syntax works in this game. The commands and syntax need to be visible on screen at all times because otherwise it's just annoying since they are very unintuitive. The same function will have different syntax eg [NUMBER] will mean that memory slot, but if you want add a number to it for example the next [memory] syntax loses the [brackets] and has the same syntax as a normal number. It is honestly terribly annoying and inconsistent. While solving puzzles I spend no time on the logic parts but all time on how to translate it into terrible syntax. Dev should have a look at eg Human Ressource Machine, let players see and interact with syntax at all times. As of right now it's terrible.
It's just simplified assembly programming in an attractive package.
★★★★★★★★☆☆
This game is heavily influenced by TIS-100 and Human Resource Machine.
The player is a new hire at a company being trained to program robots. The language is similar to assembly (as in TIS-100) with the consoles reminiscent of HRM's conveyor belts.
The game itself is open source, which pleases me greatly. There are a number of minor issues, many of which are currently being addressed by the developers. I definitely got my money's worth, and I look forward to seeing how the game develops over time.
I just bought this game because it seemed like a neat little introductory game to programming and coding.
I have little understanding of coding but would like to get into it.
At first glance of this game i am currently just finished the introductory puzzles. it is fun and uses alot of logic
that gives you a nice little challenge to the brain, and you feel accomplished after finding the solution. Or even
more so when you get it first try :)
my only complaint so far is that the instructions are a little hard to understand sometimes. sometimes the wording or the way the instructions are written dosent quite flow easily. Im not really sure how to explain this. but with after reading multiple times it helps.
Also in the instructions it gets very confusing when you are using so much symbols like '-' and '#'
within the examples that you give for the code.
As someone who is unfamiliar with programming, i got stuck few times where i entered some symbols in the
code which you had in the examples that were not part of it.
I can show you where i mean by this if you ask. but its hard to explain it here.
fun game tho i think
thank you
I did not get this game for free :) but maybe in the future you guys can send me your new game to review for you :):)
hehe thank you again
If you look past the puerile storyline littered with profanity and drug references, the annoying way it deletes part of your solution whenever you make an error (edit: fixed now), the frustrating way you can't debug your programs without endless stepping, and the bizarrely inconsistent difficulty curve of the levels, you'll find an assembly language emulator masquerading as a game. There are much better programming games out there.
Masterpiece 10/10
