STORY SECTION
A year has passed since the operation to retrieve Dr. Kirk.
Third Energy, both a source of "ultimate clean energy" and a potential "ultimate weapon," has proven to be dangerously unpredictable.
The government, having taken control of the project from Dr. Kirk, continued its development.
Then, the “accident” happened once again.
The research city of Edward City was completely destroyed in an explosion from the Third Energy reactor—an event far more catastrophic than the previous accident.
In response, the government launched a rescue mission to retrieve the research data and any remaining personnel.
To reach Edward City, believed to have been displaced in time by the reactor’s explosion, the government deployed an experimental, untested “time gate” device to send a rescue team back in time.
No one could foresee the consequences of this mission—except one person: Regina…

Here’s some of the adjustments we made:
Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
All 2 localizations of the game included (English, Japanese).
Easy difficulty, Dino Colosseum and Dino Duel included.
Improved DirectX game renderer.
New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, Anti-Aliasing and more).
Improved music playback and volume scaling.
Improved item rendering and fogging.
Improved cartridge boxes alignment.
Issue-free video playback, task switching and game exit.
Support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.

As is now tradition, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit how Dino Crisis 2 was described back in 2000:

In addition to “Regina,” the main character continues from the previous work, “Dylan” also makes an appearance
The number of weapons you can handle has increased, so use the characteristics of each to overcome difficult challenges!
More than 10 types of dinosaurs. The number of dinosaurs attacking at once has doubled!
The game takes place in the world of the Cretaceous Period...
he stage has moved from the facility-centered setting of the previous game to the world of the Cretaceous Period. Dinosaurs attack players in various scenes, including jungles, caves, lakes, and some buildings eroded by plants!

This re-released version of the game was co-developed by GOG.

Like most PC ports of retro games this is close to bare minimum, although to be fair I have seen worse, it seems there are small improvements in terms of sound and visual stability. At least they added modern controller functionality, I can confirm Xbox-one is working, but you will have to use one of the 3 presents in the game settings (keyboard can be remapped via the in-game options as well). They also have added some generic screen settings as listed on the store page, but otherwise it's the same game. The UI does not support screenshots or achievements which is probably due to the old code, but honestly, I am sure they could do it if they really wanted to. A common problem with PS1 games is that emulation generally offers a greater range of control over the game, so I do wish they would add those achievements or a new costume so there is an actual reason to replay it here. Granted, I don't want to use that emulation argument, I don't like chasing roms on the internet, and honestly I am happy to see the old games in my library, even if they could use a little more effort. That said, so far the game is working just fine.

(Also this: Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: The Enigma Protector) Which is kidna silly for this vintage, is it really necessary at this point.

...........................................

Anyway, Dino Crisis 2, one of many memorable games from my childhood, better known as the "action-arcade Resident Evil", the opposite of the first game which actually was rather tense in comparison. There were a couple of things that made this game stand out for me back in the days, obviously we had the whole time travel things and a plot twist at the end, I genuinely love the ending of this game, always gives me a sense of melancholy and makes me wish that the series endured (I don't count Dino Crisis 3 or the arcade games, not a true continuation)

Obviously the music was just ***** awesome and the locations really elevated this game, there is so much visual and gameplay variety, you get to go underwater at one point, as well as having some arcade-like shooting sections. Both characters get several unique weapons and you can strategically choose what to upgrade to your liking, giving it some replay value. I always loved the homing rockets, if you playing the game well and can afford the ammo for it, you just shoot in any direction and everything just explodes. Oh yea and dual submachines, love that crap.

The game has one neat mechanic where you get massive boost to currency for not taking damage, so it kinda rewards you for playing well, keeping it somewhat fresh even all these years later, granted I played this game so much as a kid, it's just not a challenge to me anymore, honestly the game is super easy even on the hard difficulty. It has some neat replay value, after beating the game you can unlock 2 mini games, but you have to unlock the characters with the points that you earned during the game. It also has the PVP dinosaur arena, which for a long time I didn't know was in the game.

Feedback: (I doubt anyone there reading it but)

Need screenshots and achievements - look, I am sure the code of this game does not support screenshots and achievements, but we really need it, there is no incentive to get these over superior features of emulation, you can't even share a screenshot of the game you love. I am sure it's a #### to implement, but we could really use it. And not like 5 achievements, give us some for every feature of the game, like unlocking all characters in both mini games.

You should add some exclusive costumes to the Steam version - you know, make this version stand out, 2 new costumes for both characters.

Toward wishful thinking - something like a randomizer or unlockable extra hard difficulty would be neat

(I know it's the old code, but if I had a dream)

Overall Thoughts: Original Game 9/10 (classic banger), port um, I would say 6/10, it's not good but I have seen a lot worse.

Great game, I just wish these companies put a little more effort into these releases, I am happy to see the game here, it means so much to me, but you know, we could use more love here, a few achievements, or a few new costumes, something along those lines. For example, Diablo 2 just came out with a new character, why can't we have this mindset at Capcom, just toss me a bone over here, I am not asking for much.

DYLAN! you son of a b1ch!

Run just as good as I remember. Only issue right now is that the intro videos are all fucked with red colors for some reason. Might need an update or two.

Dino Crisis 2 is more than a game for me. I am a native Spanish speaker from Argentina and this game is the sole reason i decided to learn to speak English, so that i could understand the story of this game back when i was 6 years old more than 20 years ago, playing it on my old PC with my CRT monitor. Thanks to this game and my newfound obsession to understand the language it was in, i was learning more and more english every day and I started getting straight As in my english class during high school and that led me to study English translation at college, the rest is history. I have played this game SO many times throughout my life, and bought it so many times as well. My fondest memories are playing this game in 2004 for weeks, months, because for me dinosaurs were (and still are) the coolest thing ever, and this game had so much to offer to 6 year old me that i couldn't stop playing. I feel so in debt to this game and to this franchise that i instantly buy the Dino Crisis games every time a new release is due. I bought the GOG version in hopes to see it someday on Steam as well, and here it is, and here i am supporting it again. My beloved Dino Crisis 2. My recommendation for someone who never played it before would be that you set the resolution to 720x480 or 640x480 so that the 3d models look a little more pixelated, otherwise they stand out too much from the 2d backgrounds, and it gives it more of the feeling that you'd get playing it back then. I love this game and i'll buy it as many times as it gets released, i don't care how many. Because it's part of my history, it's a reminder of where i come from and where i'm going. Enjoy this retro masterpiece from a time where all i had to worry about was how to beat the difficult sections of this game and understand the story that was written in a language i couldn't understand at all at the time.

With that being said, MAKE A NEW DINO CRISIS THAT CONTINUES THINGS WHERE YOU LEFT OFF IN THIS ONE, YOU COWARDS.

Controls are a little janky, and it's a shame that you can't seem to map any control to the mouse, making this a keyboard only control game (or use a controller if you wish!) but so far it plays pretty well. Good to reminisce about a time when games were simpler and Dino Crisis wasn't a laughing stock. Highly recommend for any retro gamers, CAPCOM fans, or people who just enjoy dinosaurs in general (which is all of us right?).
