Welcome Sir.
You are the new dictator of Risuena, a small and poor country of the third world. You have just seized power after a bloody coup and your intentions are to stay in power as long as you can, to rip this country off, transfer the money to your secret Swiss bank account and of course, stay alive and enjoy your wealth.
The problems in your plan are the various parties of Risuena's society who also want to benefit and survive throughout your Junta, the Guerrillas who try to seize power, the Americans who support your dictatorship but expect something in return and the next men in power after you, who are waiting for a chance to betray you!
Sim Junta is developed as a retro game of the 80's 16-bit computers. It is a statistical management game of brutal and violent politics, since it is a game that has dictatorship as a theme. It is a humorous but very deep strategy game.

TLDR: Simplistic turn based game with a fun premisce but poor execution, suffers from low interactivity, clunky slow sequences that show the consequences of your previous turn's actions.
Goal is to siphon money out of the country. But you start the game running a deficit, which means you must increase taxes, while managing police and army budgets, avoiding a revolution. Basically one of these gauges is always going to suffer as there is simply not enough money for you to win the game and manage the colony at the same time. Even so, the implementation is too clunky for it to matter, the reactions from the engine seem very drastic and I usually find myself being overthrown fairly fast. The transitition between turns is illustrated by days in which you see an isometric screen of what is presumably the presidential residence. The screen always flickers black whenever those sequences start and stop. There are not a lot of policies you can adopt and are often limited to just waiting for a request coming from one group or the other to implement changes. I found the user interface rather cryptic and not very pleasant. The choices are mostly made through a retro CRT computer, the old windows sounds it produces are unpleasant. I would had said to just make a larger menu since this is where you play the whole game.
It's not a rip off of Tropico. It's a rip off of Dictator on the ZX Spectrum.
Which would be great. I've wanted a new version of Dictator for years. As a cheap text game, it would be fun.
Sadly, Sim Junta has less random events, a worse UI and is generally less fun than Dictator.
When you're outclassed by the 1983 8 Bit game you're based on, something has gone badly wrong.
The game lacked content which caused a lack of interest, to which i tried to exit the game but the only interactive segment stayed on screen, causing me to have to enter taskmananger to manually close it.This game has potential but needs more effort put into it.
Good game i'd say, only worth buying it on a sale doe. It's fun being a dictator and ripping of your country then escaping to the US and living your life with lots of wealth
I have a pretty good gaming rig, and this thing is a glitchy disaster. Too bad, a great idea just executed piss-poor.
Turn 1: sell an island
Turn 2: revolution
win civil war, sell another island, embezzle the whole treasury (334 mil usd)
Turn 3: flee to the states
The 11th dictator finally got it right
11/11 would embezzle funds and flee again
I liked the game.
The music does remind me of Tropico. The game is very one dimensional. So all you can/or have to do in the game is to surive. I hope the game will be developed in a more strategic way as having more economy cotrol and with more animation.
If you like plain strategy you will probbably enjoy this time.
But due to lack of complexity most likely the game will not keep you intertain for very long.
If you are looking for a political statistical management game, go look elsewhere. Also, if you are looking for a enjoyable game, the same applies. Sim Junta is not only too simple and too shallow, but also extremely unfair and lacking both on options as well as freedom for the player to approach the game. Do slightly different from the very few significant oipitoins you have at your disposal and it is game over with barely minutes of gameplay. The Player won't even have time to grasp basic mechanics and he will already be forced to restart the game. But we could overlook that fact if, beyond that point, the game woul offer a meaninful and interesting experience to the player, however, far from it, it is just a constant struggle to see how far you can go in a game that is much more trial and error than management. Even relatively mediocre games, such as Rogue State, provide a better experience. Unfortunately, Sim Junta had an interesting idea, but very poorly executed.
Minimalist, and the game window sometimes freezes and doesn’t cooperate with swtiching to another program. This is mainly a puzzle game where you need to play off factions against each other until you run out of money. Contrary to what others have said, it really has nothing in common with Tropico, not even mood. I got it for less than a dollar. It’s not a rip-off, but there are better games on the Web for free.
If you’re interested in a more serious game of this type, you might look up Hidden Agenda, from 1988, which is not currently on Steam. That’s probably the “retro” game the developers were talking about.
Game is broken - interface does not fit as it should and when you click buttons it clicks the button beneath because it doesn't fit.
Played really a couple of minutes...
Simple game, worth about the 50% of his price (2€, not more).
Sadly, it crashed after some playing...
Refunded by Steam.
This game is great for the bargin I've gotten it for! It's a game set during the Cold War in which you are "Mr.President", the current military president of Risuena, a backwater, third-world country. This game is sorta like if Tropico had an orgy with Papers, Please, add a dash of Haiti, and this would be it's love child. It's also somewhat like that game Dictator on the ZX Spectrum (look it up, it's an old school game).
Anyways, this game is a management economy game without building shit and instead just passing out edicts and stuff. What you then do is balence the economy by raising taxes and creating bills to pass, however, don't think that you can just fuck around and not get away with it (believe me, it happened to me a couple times). If you do decide to diddlydick around, the different factions will try to plot against you by either trying to form a revolution or to try to kill your ass.
And if that happens, you have a small choice that could lead in either life or death, fight off the punkass revolutionaries or leave the country for good. If you choose to fight, you'll either live to another day, or you'll die.
If you do flee, you'll win if you have played your cards right and you'll be presented with a nice ending.
Anyways, my score for this game would be a:
8.25/10
It's a good indie game and I'd suggest buying it during a Steam sale, only because it's not exactly worth $5.
Fun little game!
The game itself is kind of simple. Stay alive, and in power, for as long as possible.
Sounds pretty easy right?
Well the game is a sort of turn based game, where you spend each round allocating different resources to different official or unofficial government branches. Each time some you do so, you'll make some people happy, and some other people less happy.
The key is to try and keep most people happy, or at the very least, the people who can protect you happy.
Different factions or groups of people can turn against you, as well as you closest advisors might try and take power from you.
So if you've ever dreamed about being a real life dictator, well here's your chance. But watch your back!
I'm really into strategy and management games. Not this one and would not recommend it either. The whole game is looking at a computer screen and changing a budget by steps of 10%. This to maintain "good relations" with your subjects. The whole system how this is calculated and displayed to you is tedious and boring. Game is sprinkled with cutaway scenes which do not allow any involvement in your part other than "skip with any key". Miles away and behind from Papers Please. Save your money and don't buy.
€4.99 can't go wrong, does exactly what it says on the tin. Took a chance on it after very little info available online and had no expectations but it's actually got more depth than I expected and a nice charm to it. Assasinated after 2 or 3 months in power, would die again.
It's text based Tropico, with the Papers, Please soundtrack. And none of the fun of either game.
This game is interesting. Not bad, not great, just interesting. Take the core concept of Tropico, where you are an island dictator and revolution against your regime is just around the corner, yet make it a predominantly Cause and Effect type game where instead of building up an island nation like Sim City, you're more balancing budgets to not go bankrupt yet not get wiped out by rebels due to tax increases until you're rich enough to escape. It seems the only way to learn the game is to constantly fail and try again, which works with this type of game but it's frustrating when you keep getting wiped out by your own army! All in all, it's simple, it's interesting and games where you experiment always come off as engaging to me. I'd recommend if you're into text adventures as a mad dictator who is just trying to screw his nation out of millions of dollars!

I don't understand why i lost the game when i increased spending on education and healthcare. I guess developer don't support obamacare.
Game's okay, it's like playing democracy, except much simpler. Adjust taxes, spending expenses, etc. I could not save (bug) any games as saving will cause it to crash. Even when I got it at a discount of less than $5, I would still say it's only worth < $3 as there's not much aspects to it.
Sorry for my last review... but i made a new one (i'm not that good at writing but i tried!)
Ok so lets start with how the game works.
Your goal is to stay as the dictator for as long as possible and to transfer as much money as you can to your swiss bank account. But to do that properly you need to screw over some people in your country. ( you start the game with income of $ -???? )
So in this game you play a dictator who uses a computer pogram in which you can select actions, see your expenses and income, see how things are with your population(in parties), and also see how strong your army is compared to other countries and their relations.
Gameplay
So lets go over these.
- Actions
the actions screen lets you select actions(surprise surprise). some of these actions are like decreasing/increasing education/health expenses, by decreasing these you will earn more money but you will also piss some parties off. all of this is made clearly visible and shows you what parties( like workers, businessmen, police, army, americans, etc) you are pissing off or making more pleased. genuinely actions that piss off a party also make them weaker.
Other actions are like "arrest your enemies"(which makes their parties angrier but also weaker), "Kiss americans' ass!"(which makes americans more pleased with you but also pisses off certain parties) or "ask americans for aid!"(if the americans are quite pleased with you, they will give you some money) there are 24 actions all with their own consequences.
-Money
The money screen shows you your expenses and income. It also lets you increase taxes for certain parties.( which increases your income but also pisses off the with tax increased party) another thing you can do over there is putting money from your country to your swiss bank account which is sort of the goal.
-Secret police
the secret police screen shows you the parties and how pissed off they are(also how likely they are to try to assasinate you or start a revolution). Next to that it also shows how strong they are( the stronger they are, the more capable of causing problems they get.). the police party has to be strong enough ( and not too pissed off :p ) for you to see this screen. increasing their strength is possible by increasing police funds ( but then that also that pisses off alot of other parties )
-Army
The army screen shows you how strong you are compared to other countries.
after you have made all your desired descisions, you click proceed and the game shows you a glitchy animation thats in made in such an annoying framerate that it will give you a headache. in that animation you will see yourself getting assasinated, see a whole crowd protesting, etc etc. if you survive the month without getting murdered you will be brought back to the computer program.
when you survive it and the countries bank balance is all gone you get two options:
-flee the country
either by foot( bigger chance to get killed) or by your helicopter( depending if you've bought it)
-fix the country
you can try to increase taxes or ask america for aid to make sure you get money again.
So thats basically how the game works. if you flee succesfully you 'win' the game.
opinion
So I expected this game to be super boring, but while playing to write this review I had loads of fun. Yes the game has issues but those are primarly with the graphics, the actual gameplay is solid. it only crashed once (after the first 7 minutes).
I don't regret buying this game and i'd recommend it to you.
tl:dr alot of pissing off and screwing over parties. and all in all a fun game.
