This game is weird...
Like I bought game cause it got a lot of good reviews on Dlsite.
But then I played a bit of it the less I see it as Hentai game...
I feel so bad about how stupid and dumb protagonist are.
I couldn't see her as some woman at all even with all those tits.
I feel the need to make her human being before doing anything.

I bought and fully completed this game before so that's why there’s almost no playtime on Steam at the moment of posting this review. I bought it again here in bundle with their previous game to support favorite devs and for uncensored scenes of course (!!!don’t forget to download and install patch from publisher’s site!!!). I’ve transferred my old saves from DLsite version, tried walking in town a bit and looking at gallery, seems nothing is missing, no bugs or problems. English translation I think is decent enough, checked by talking to that one character in chapter select, now she actually makes some sense compared to when I read her dialogue before with MTool or OCR function of Luna translator. Spoilers ahead so skip this review if you want completely fresh experience, I will avoid names and as much important stuff as I can and you normally don't care much about story in eroge, right? What made me really fall in love with this game was a plot twist around the end of chapter one, while everything before it was not serious and silly, suddenly vibe drastically changes without warning, brutal and kinda sad murders of some of the main characters take place (main menu changes too), it made me so confused, like what for and what could possibly happen next, felt as if it was bad ending that you can't avoid while there's almost no questions answered and almost all of the gallery still locked, like what was even going on, in this type of game? Really? Anyway, at that point story became unbelievably interesting. Nobody likes spoilers but honestly, I wished somebody told me it gonna go like this as I’ve almost missed this gem, I tried Sakura Gozen randomly at that time, without many expectations. I played a lot of RPG Maker nsfw games like this one, more than few with very similar setting *cough* Shinobi Buster Mizuna *cough* what I expected initially was the usual stuff, just what you imagine from screenshots: big-chested heroine in samurai era Japan where 95% of h-scenes are pretty basic with her in pleasure district or with monsters in forest. Glad that heroines and scenes turned out a lot more variable, perverted and unhinged than I initially expected (for example "a decease no doctor can cure" scene in chapter select, if you know you know ;). Also, great yuri stuff here, to make yuri scenes so hot and well-written is an art of its own. Appreciate the animation too, even though there’s not many frames in them, but still looks much better than stationary CG. Starting playing I hoped for it not to become too dark and depressing NTR stuff with progression but also not to become too vanilla and boring which would also make it kinda too censored if it makes sense. I hate when ero jrpg becomes an endless click through of long predictable h-scenes and events with badly written characters, add to it hellish grind and usually I have no energy to even finish the main story. I’m happy all this was not the case in Sakura Gozen. To be honest, even though art style is pretty, characters here maybe not the most beautiful and sexiest you ever saw but they’re for sure very well-written which makes them alive and interesting, you can actually enjoy their interactions instead of skipping and of course it makes h-scenes fun to read. Main story is great, really engaging, maybe not from the very start, but from around the end of first chapter? Hell yeah. Definitely one of the best eroge plots of all time in my opinion. Side quests are mostly goofy and easy to do, not grindy and annoying, for me it felt as a nice change of pace compared to some main story events. Overall, the game is as well made as it can possibly be for a game created on RPG Maker engine, comparing to a lot of other jrpg on this engine, I think devs got the maximum out of it to make it as fun and unique as possible. Game was totally worth time and money I spent, I’ve enjoyed every second of reading story to the very end and unlocking 100% of content. I’m gonna replay Steam version when I forget this game a bit more, meanwhile I need to beat their previous game The Monstrous Horror Show. I would love to see a new awesome title from this developer in the future, while DLC for this one or Sakura Gozen 2 would be great too

The dev's last game, The Monstrous Horror Show, is not required to enjoy this game.
However it's very recommended to maximize clapping potential.

I'm not even done with the game and I already have to recommend it. It's a very polished game with great art and a variety of interests covered, it even has content warnings allowing you to skip scenes you may rather not see.
I will probably update this review when I finish the game but for now It's worth checking out.

Sakura Gozen is an extremely charming game that is clearly made with love and passion for the medium. The sprite work is excellent and pairs well with the very high quality art. The game also has a wide variety of colorful characters with plenty of humor throughout. It also has a story can only be called an emotional rollercoaster of moments that will leave a lasting impression after you finish, Highly recommend this one.

(My game time doesn't properly reflect my time spent with the game I played the dlsite version first, so good I bought it twice!)
