interesting concept.
A Resident Evil with random level generation sounds like a brilliant idea, however the way it's executed here fails to capture intricate design and meaningful backtracking found in RE. Every generation is 3 or 4 linear paths that never connect back to a different path, meaning you backtrack down the same long hallway again every time. The rooms and hallways also repeat and aren't unique making the exploration feel repetitive and just feels bad overall. This is probably due to recreating the look of the pre-rendered backgrounds (which is done quite well), however it hurts the variety the game could have had. I will say the controls are fast and responsive, much more than PS1 RE.
A great attempt at an even greater idea but honestly doesn't compare to RE or any other survival horror title.
Very underrated game. Well made and a great concept. Excited to see what the dev will do in the future
I enjoyed the original vaccine, yet I thought it was rough around the edges. This is a great improvement, I have been mostly playing on my switch and have beaten it a couple times. The runs are satisfying and just the right length. There are a balance changes that I think could go along way, the aiming upgrade is way to overpowered and that grouped with the custom pistol is broken and a definite win. I think that the aiming tab should increase critical hit chance and weapon upgrades like how leon's pistol in re2 gets a burst upgrade in re2 the monster dropping the custom pistol in area run makes runs a little to easy after you kill him a third time and get 100 bullets . This would encourage exploration and make each run different by limiting your weapons selection creating variety in runs. I think body armor would be cool as an item in the lab. I wish there was a final boss, yet I have seen thing like "true ending" and maybe there is. The game reminds me of spelunky classic a really great foundation that could grow and become a really amazing game.
The game is fine. It tries to replicate games like RE, but it feels like the game is yet to be polished. The combat system doesn't look good at all and the interface is a bit ugly. The stamina bar and how the damage produced is marked is also strange. In addition, the AI of the enemies is simple (is fine) but the "boss" that appears has a rather poor intelligence that causes him to stay in the 1st room and not chase you. I also don't understand why you can move the camera, is not well controlled. And the soundtrack (and sound effects in general) doesn't convince me.
The game has good ideas. The aesthetics are achieved (there is still room for improvement). And the co-op mode is very interesting. The difficulty is high, so it's a good challenge. I will continue watching the evolution of this game. But for the moment I would wait for them to continue to improve it.
AFTER ALL THESE GODDAMN YEARS, YOU FUCKS STILL HAVENT FIXED THE WALKING BACKWARDS BEING FLIPPED ISSUE.
I found this game to be extremely fun. As someone who grew up with resident evil one, a procedurally generated game in that style is an amazing concept. I haven't gotten the chance to try split screen out, but i would just like to say i can really feel the love in this game.
Its a fun game i always wanted to play a co-op old style Resident Evil game with a friend this game allows you to see what it would be like the game isn't long its randomly generated maps. I really wish it had a fully fleshed out story but its still fun to buy and play for the price.
If you've played the previous game and want more of it, you'll enjoy this one.
Otherwise this is a game for people in love with ps1 survival horror games.
It has a randomized layout and repeating rooms, so don't expect resident evil quality, you will run
into the same rooms over and over again.
This game also has everything the first one has but better, so don't bother getting both unless you want to support the dev.
tl;dr Buy if you enjoy this type of game, else watch a gameplay vid first.
This game as of today has immense potentials.
Never played the original Vaccine but it seemed that one has marginally more content.
In Vaccine Rebirth, the engine, models, skeleton, controls and roguelike element is absolutely bang on. However eventually for a considerably larger audience, I think it needs a tad more variability, like map: indoor outdoor areas, more more enemies, perhaps i bit more 3D navigation like up and downstairs, perhaps even a save and quit mode.
Roguelike/roguelite games are all about randomised possibilities after all.
Over all, I have enjoyed my time with this game. Especially for this price, it is unimpeachable. The devs deserve the support.
This will be an unusually short review from me, but I'm low on time and I want to make sure this game gets it's 'positive' review score asap! Will update it later...!
I thought the original Vaccine was an interesting idea, but with some poor implementation. Vaccine 2, I mean, Rebirth is an even MORE interesting idea, and with improved implementation!
I need to play this a little more in singleplayer in order to give a proper review, but a friend and I played this in Remote Play coop last night and had a blast. The bitcrushed backgrounds are extremely reminiscent of Resident Evil, and the fixed multicam angles chosen - combined with the audio design - make combat much more satisfying than before.
Getting stuck on objects, encountering overly verbose middle-management memos and a somewhat mystifying repeating structure (not so much 'how' as 'why?!') present some minor speed-bumps, but these are fairly easy to overcome. You do feel it needed another polish pass, though...
I can see myself playing this (alone and with friends) for many more hours to come, so I think I can definitely recommend this for €7. Will revise this review after some more play...!
The game is really fun local coop, and there's no terror like running for your lives from an unstoppable killing machine as the timer ticks down! There were a few bugs my friend and I encountered, but nothing too game breaking. And the dev is really responsive to those reports, which is always a great sign.
