I got tired of mtg. This is fun and simple. Oldschool fantasy card art is also great imo.
This is the long-awaited rejuvenation of the popular Astral Tournament game under a different name. During High School at Ithaca High School in Tompkins County New York, home of Cornell University, we had Local Area Network parties and played Astral Tournament for spans of time between games of Soul Calibur, Soul Calibur 2, and Ultimate Frisbee. We also played it late into the night to the exclusion of other activities including eating and sleeping, or at least sleeping.
Spectromancer is even better than Astral Tournament. I particularly recommend it to my friend Daniel Wang of Ithaca High School, Rochester University, the Facebook company, and now Reno Nevada, where he has a house that he bought with profit from stock market investments and plays no limit poker in one of the casinos.
I will remove this negative review only after you at least remove 5 machine activation limit. Obviously I would prefer no DRM whatsoever but to force people to email you to request renewal needs to change. Even if it's old game and DRM, you still sell it today.
A fun card game that's challenging for your mind. The rules are original and fun, you can set up various win conditions to strive for and just matches against the AI can be really hard and fun on the hardest difficulty. The campaign has special units for the enemy or yourself giving each battle a bit of an unique feeling, while the different classes give some good replayability.
Was thinking this could scratch the deck-building, infinite-replayability itch, but no. The campaign mode is just a series of random opponents with you using a random selection of the same pool of card. No sense of progression, expect for some very minuscule upgrade to your cards after *some* battles.
And not all battles are winnable. The RNG pain is real, if you happen to get a bad mix of cards, you will absolutely loose the match at certain difficulty levels.
love it, very repeatable
Very clever old school game with an online in-game.
Fantastic game holding up almost two decades later!
A delightful draught of fantasy tropes, compelling card effects, and simple addictive play.
Absolutely brilliant game. Takes the best parts of a card game but eliminates the RNG. As far as I am aware there is literally 0 RNG in this game, aside maybe from who goes first in a multiplayer game. Custom decks have a relatively small amount of options but each possible inclusion in the deck makes a big difference, and actually this small pool of cards is one of the game's strengths. I can already tell this game has a tremendous amount of replay value. I was big into Ascension but Spectromancer is definitely giving Ascension a good run. DRM is removed in the "latest version" of the game, so definitely buy the more expensive alternative. Also this game can run on a toaster which is crazy considering how much fun and how much strategy it actually offers
Really good.
A classic that is impossible to get tired of it
Love this game, just a really nice relaxing card battler
The good old days of card games
Love the game, nice twist on the deckbuilding genre, where you chose your class, but don't actually build your deck.
good
A hidden gem! The campaign has some very imaginative (and painful) opponents, and the base concept of not knowing which of your creatures and spells you're going into each encounter with makes things very interesting (and even more painful) Definitely recommend if you enjoy these kinds of battlers and want to try something new!
great game
Great quick games with a good concept of strategy. AI is really good. Lots of variety. One you can just sit down and play a couple games on. As a lot are saying, graphics a bit blah, but the game is great for the price. Highly recommend for those board gamer types.
