do NOT buy this game right now. its a waste of money. the concept is good but with how slow the development is i dont think its a good option at all. the game was kind of playable before but now its a complete mess.

the game crashes whenever i launch it for the second time after downloading it. it is also very annoying that you have to make your own units and cant use presets or anything.

When I first got this game 3 years ago it was a blast I had forgotten about if for awhile until I decided to play a couple years later and found out that the game had taken a severe detour. The realistic blood and gore was just bullet holes and glitchy wounds now. I really hope the creator can find the time to make the game truly Emmersive as it once was. Personally myself I really liked the realistic ragdolls and gore. (I still enjoy this game to this day)

owned this game for years it was good but ever other update when they finally released break the ability to control people which is the whole game so font even bother unless you just wanna watch AI shoot each over through walls and not even be able to control people

Warbox is developed by one person, I think the idea of the game is great but its ridiculed with bugs that make it unplayable unless on the legacy beta.

I'm going to be charitable since this is being worked on by pretty much one guy, who's had complications here and there, but I'll cut to the chase: don't.

Older versions of the game showed a lot of promise (for those who already have the game, the "legacy" branch in Betas). The game worked, it was playable, it had a bit of content - if you ask me, all it needed was polish and expansion.
Instead, the game has been reworked multiple times in the years since with little actual, clear, and meaningful progress being made. A few years back the game received a major update that made it genuinely unplayable, and the last time I checked on the current branch it was still barely functional. The game still has the same amount of content (not much, in some cases even less now), little substance, and no polish. Performance is also suboptimal, and always has been.

The current version of the game runs on fumes, and the legacy branch works but really doesn't bring much to the table.

Recent devlogs show that Manta's working hard, I have faith in him and you should too. In time, I'm sure this game will end up in a brilliant state. However, you absolutely should not purchase this game and expect a complete, or even functional product. Go play ArmA 3 instead if that's what you're looking for.

The developer keeps saying that you have to press f on a soldier in order to control them, but however if this was true, it should work. Well then WHY THE HELL DOESN'T IT WORK!

its a pretty good game (legacy) i tried playing the newer one but there is a lot of bugs and shit, and downgrades in the new one, i get it that its created by one person, but i wish he would continued on unreal engine 4 and he could just add clothes and voices in that one without making it worse

In a tragic decision, fueled by ineptitude, the developer chose to update the game to UE5. Now, the problem is that is an entirely different engine and destroyed almost every aspect of the game. Instead of doing the smart thing and admitting that it was the wrong move, he continues to soldier on, ruining the reputation of both himself and the product. So, why am I recommending it? Contrary to that, he also has both the original itch.io version as well as the last UE4 build available via Steam's convenient beta system. It's been three years now of this dance with a port that still isn't up to snuff, seemingly out of stubbornness. Maybe he lost the original files and just wants to try and salvage the project, but realistically he could've developed an entirely new game that actually worked instead.

Its unplayable! when making a soldier you can't even wear a mask without it changing to a gas mask! and when playing the game its 13 FPS its like watching a slide show.

This game is now worse than the original itch.io project.

Its a good game. i dont think all the haters realise that its still in early access and its being worked on by one person. although cant wait for the customisation to be fixed

very good game if you want to simulate wars, i just recomend switching to the legacy version, but overall. amazing game, you just need a pretty beefy pc to run it

Game is fun, real, and I find it very fun. But the development takes very long and updates take a while. Sometimes when updates come out, it seems like nothing was changed.

Very buggy. Havent gone a minute without a single bug. I have not enjoyed a single one of the 13 hours I have played this game (If you can even call it that). Dev bit off much more than he could chew with this one. Here are some of the good parts of the game:

• The ballistics in this game are actually quite good. You have bullets going through objects/walls and ricochets sometimes.
  
• I like the sound of most of the voices in the game aside from the two american AI voices at the bottom. idk why they are there, the game already has 5 american voices.
  
• Surprisingly good medical system.
  

• Half the time you cant control soldiers.
  
• Some weapons have no sounds whatsoever.
  
• I saw my own skull through my head in first person.
  
• Third person shooting makes me feel like a stormtrooper.
  
• AI loves to sit in one massive heap which lets you mow them down.
  
• It takes about an entire mag for someone to go down properly unless you hit them in the head.
  
• I have been shooting rifles without magazines.
  
• I somehow made a soldier carry two guns at once.
  
• When you drop your gun if you manage to get shot, you still hold your hands out like you are holding one even though there is nothing there.
  
• Loading screens dont show
  
• There is a button for advanced settings when you try to load into a game which does absolutely nothing
  
• Horrendously optimised. Like laughably bad.
  
• Majority of controls just dont exist in the controls settings? Why not? This is like a basic thing to have.
  
• Trying to load some maps literally just took me straight back to the menu after loading.
  
• I try to start a game with 5 soldiers. It spawns 6??? Huh? Why is this a thing?
  
• When in spectator, if you go to the menu and then go off, you are stuck with no cursor
  
• NPC stuck in ground
  
• Visible gap between hand and wrist.
  
• Gore settings but no gore. There used to be gore and it was very good gore. Why its gone, idk.
  
• Hands suddenly decided to just not exist anymore. completely invisible.
  
• Customising soldiers doesn't sort them by faction. Stuff can get messy.

game used to be decent, now its completley unplayable and the characters dont do ANYTHING!

one of the worst optimized games ive ever played, ive tried to play it multiple times through steam or pirating it to see if some other versions are different or whatever and i have never gotten it to run properly no matter how many different settings i use or if i have everything on my computer shut off a bunch of things like that, unless you have a very good computer do not buy it until you upgrade it or replace it because without that it wont run over 10 fps with all of the visual settings turned down as much as possible. despite all of this the game is very fun if you like sandbox games where you watch npcs fight, its got good physics and the ragdolls are amazing. i will say again though the optimization is horrendous and dont think its just because my computer is terrible i can run gta 5 at a steady 120 fps and battlefield 1 and bfv just the same but even the main menu of this game struggles go over 15fps and makes my computer fan sound like a jet.

only bad thing is you need a good pc but except for that its amazing!

I just checked, I bought this game on Oct 26, 2023. Today is Apr, 12, 2025. The game did not get a single potential update that gave me hope -- despite my patience sadly. Quite a shame, this game had slight potential. The problem is, I could have coped as long as this game gave us some proper mechanichs atleast, yet even the menus are bugged, you can't properly spawn shi, play pre-made scenarios or ignore janky running animations or anything. Mfs sold me a Unreal Engine-designed main menu where you can't even click on some options.

This game is really bad. The developer is to busy trying to make updates when he could be fixing the games bugs. The npc are really stupid jumping on walls and just sitting there. If you do get this game I recommend switching it to UE4.

Nice game, just needs to fix bugs. but once you just figure out how to make a faction, and a soldier with weapons. Its amazing. Just need to fix things like making attatchments actually appliable and gun bugs like the glock facing the sky while shooting forward, but anyways, ragdolls and everything are nice.

glad to know i paid for nothing except a broken, abandoned game. thanks, Mantaliss. this game looked promising at first but is disappointing after purchase. not like the developer cares of course. if you somehow manage to see this before buying it, please for the love of all that is holy, do not buy this trash. at least not now. this game isn't any different than what it was months on top of months ago. still just a buggy mess with so much work that needs to be done but seemingly never will be.

This game is so buggy it makes it unfun.

Combat is quite impressive & physics, but overall it's an empty game.
On top of that I experienced bugs that I wasn't able take over NPCS, so i was able mainly to spectate...

Overall - could be good, but I doubt dev has any good ideas on this one how to keep it alive, engaging, so future is very unclear... But still if it does improve at leat a bit so it would be playable, I would consider it, but as sandbox & in such state? No.

You see, people don't understand this game apart from the footage online of how 'cool' it looks, cause i'm sorry to break it to you.. its shit, this game is bad and there is a reason HOW its bad.

Number one, the developer practically added too many features to the point that the UI and such doesn't work anymore, Wanted to wear a balaclava for your character? well its broken, wanted to change the camo on a helmet cover you have?.. well goodbye to that idea.

I have high hopes in the future for this game, i really do, but from what the game is at now i think it might only just get worse, i mean for crying out loud.. the legacy version might not have as many features you want now but it WORKED.

Its a good game its just not optimised and glitchy, so get the game when the game is fixed and better. or just get the free version (mantas warbox on itch.io)
