Enter the dystopian world of SPRAWL, a hardcore retro FPS set in an endless cyberpunk megalopolis. Advances in cybernetics and artificial intelligence pushed humanity into a new era, but that golden age has crumbled…leaving behind a broken world.

Play as SEVEN, a disgraced special ops super soldier who finds herself embroiled in conflict with government forces trying to kill her while a mysterious voice in her head pushes her to survive. Betrayed by her organization and on a mission to overthrow the Junta, a military regime that rules the sprawl with an iron fist, SEVEN must escape the walled city and discover what secrets lie at the SPIRE.

The streets of the SPRAWL are vast and the armies of the corporate government seem endless. But the dark alleys and dilapidated apartment surfaces are all compatible with the “Icarus” cybernetic implant, allowing SEVEN to perform gravity-defying wall-running maneuvers and slow down time with excess adrenaline drops from dismembered enemies.           A solid, tightly-tuned boomer shooter with some fun wall-running mechanics, awesome weapon selection, and an absolute killer sound design. Also, not a super long game, but still a perfect length for sitting and playing through over a few sittings!

          Great gameplay. Great music. Vibe is good. Weapons and level design are satisfying. One of the very few games that actually gets the "Titanfall" style movement right. Some of the voice acting is a little silly but otherwise very solid game.

          I would only recommend the game at a heavy discount.

          On one hand the presentation is superb: the game looks fantastic, the music is great (seems very inspired by the first Ghost in The Shell anime movie) and the game runs smoothly.

          But I honestly cannot say much about the gameplay, its just very basic despite having gameplay mechanics that should make it alot more interesting.

          The main mechanicss are bullet time and wallrunning.

          Bullet time doesnt really offer any advantage other than giving you more time to aim more easily and have enemy weakpoint highlighted (you can still hit the weakpoint without it).
          It doesnt make you move slightly faster to let you avoid bullets more easily (theres no hitscan bullets so dodging them is very doable regardless of using bullet time)

          Wall running is you mainr method of platforming and moving around enemies. its a very nice mechanich but it can be annoying that momentum wont stop for a while after you started wallrunning. Basically you cannot just detach from the wall and drop straight down unless you jump or wait until the momentum is over.

          There is also a "glory kill" of sorts, where medium sized enemies get stunned when their health is low and you can finish them of with a single melee strike, but it doesnt really seem to add anything at a to the combat that you can already do by just finishing them off with a shot to the head (both methods make them drop pickups anyway)

          The combat is very good in small areas, but on anything remotely big it falls appart because you can just strafe to avoid any and all fire by enemies since their bullets are relatively slow.

          Guns feels hit and miss. They are all kill good but have some weird design choice that makes them no fun at all (a shotguns with a rate fo fire slower than a grenade launcher, a minigun that slows you down to a crawl while firing and a rocket launcher that fires a volley of rockets in random directions)

          Overall its a cool short game with comabts that doesnt seem to have flow at all, and I do recommend it but only at a discount.

          Absolutely loved the game, the gunplay in this game is fantastic and the movement is smooth. Highly recommend if you like boomer shooters (specifically Ultrakill) and some dark cyberpunk vibes.

          Pros:

          - Combat feels amazing. Activating bullet-time highlights weak spots on enemies. Targeting said weak points makes enemies drop ammo, health and bullet-time refills. The game pushes you to always be on the offense and you can pull off some sick moves using wall-running, sliding and shotgun-jumping.

          - Melee "glory kills" do not kill the pace of combat by locking you into an unskippable animation. A quick flick of the katana does the job. They are also not the only way of turning enemies into resource pinatas.

          - The weapons feel distinct from each other and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

          - No gameplay balance breaking secrets or progression systems you have to look up guides for or grind through. The game does it the old-school way by introducing new enemies, weapons, level hazards and ramping up the challenge. It's a short campaign at about 6 or 7 hours, but it feels like they went with all killer and no filler.

          - A basic story to at least provide some context to what you are doing and why. It also surprisingly refuses to reuse the tired cliche you will be expecting the entire game.

          - The AI can be surprisingly agile as you will often see humanoid enemies use their jetpacks to get to the platform you are standing on.

          Cons:

          - The AI can be really stupid at times. You will frequently see enemies standing in one place in the middle of combat, throwing themselves off buildings or failing to aknowledge that you are even there until you open fire.

          - The level design is great, but the game never pushes you to use it. In something like Severed Steel, you are invulnerable when doing slides, wall-runs, etc. It feels like these levels would have been a better fit in that game. Here you can simply circle-strafe to avoid projectiles and hitting weak points is far easier if you do so. There is also no point in littering the levels with resources if killing enemies quickly maxes out the ones you carry. These things combined result in you frequently murdering everything within an arena 5 meters away from its entrance and then realising there were ammo, health, straight walls and a lot of verticality you could have utilized.

          - The platforming is too easy. Falling simply has the game teleport you to the last platform you were on. I think it took 10 armor points every time that happened at one point, but even that penalty seemed gone later. If you look at the patch notes, they also added an extra jump you are able to do while wall-running. This seems to have removed a lot of the skill required in mastering some of these platforming challenges, as previously you most likely would have had to use the slide-jump boost and wall-switching in order to gain enough momentum. Now you can stick to one wall much longer by re-jumping on it twice. The tutorial at the start of the game isn't even updated to aknowledge the added jump.

          - The game is really bad at explaining what it wants you to do in order to defeat bosses. For the first one, unlike every enemy you've faced so far, you need to shoot ALL of the weak points until their individual health goes down. After which, you can shoot the baddie inside past the point of his health dropping to 0 and yet the fight will keep going. With the second boss, you need to shoot specific sections that aren't highlighted, even though the game has been teaching you the exact opposite so far. Oh and you can swim now, even though that's never been a possibility before. For the last boss, the game starts spamming projectiles at you and deprives you of resources. I still have no idea if you are even expected to be able to heal or defeat some of the enemies here.

          - The game also used to have 4 set difficulty options. I would prefer those instead of the god-mode toggle, pick-up disabler, enemy/player damage and bullet-time burn-rate sliders in the settings menu. At least that way I would know the game difficulty was somewhat ballanced and I wouldn't be able to optimize the fun out by using unlimited bullet-time or making some enemies invincible (the slider doesn't apply to weak point damage surprisingly enough).

          - While it's good that there is a story, it feels a bit bare bones. A lot of things mentioned have no context behind them, leaving me confused. Maybe the context is to be found in the codex entries you can pick up by walking over them, but my idea of fun in this kind of game isn't stopping the action every 2 minutes to look up a guide to stop the action for 2 more minutes while I read a text screen. It also doesn't help that Father will often talk to you in the middle of combat or that if you quit the game after starting a new episode, his dialogue will not repeat even though you've just restarted from the same checkpoint.

          - Some of the weapons kind of suck. The SMGs feel outclassed by the pistols and shotgun for 2/3 of the game. It's not until you start facing more robot enemies that take less weak point damage that they come into their own. The minigun feels like it was nerfed to do too little damage to be worth using most of the time. It's just "the SMGs but worse" in a lot of situations. And I don't know whose terrible idea it was to have the railgun need to charge up every shot. I need to somehow predict when exactly the damnable thing will fire while dodging enemy projectiles? And it does too little damage to the tougher enemies to be worth using anyway. Could have tightened the spread of the rocket launcher's rockets a bit more too so it wasn't only useful on the one mini-boss enemy.

          - Dot crosshair feels a tad too large. Makes it hard to aim at distant targets.

          - Signposting isn't always clear with where you need to go next. The levels are pretty linear aside from a few backtracking instances though, so you won't be needing a guide to look at.

          - The soundtrack can get stale as there isn't much variety between song compositions. The choir that seems to be featured in every song became outright grating at points for me.

          It's good not perfect. During the first mission for some reason when i died my smgs went away. I believe this is a saving error. Then the game also defaults to borderless which for my computer for some reason stops mouse inputs when it reachs the end of the screen. But don't die the first mission, change to full screen, and use slow motion this game is amazing. The rush of swapping weapons to side step shot delay. wallrunning. a story that kind sucks but isn't up in your face. If you like ultra kill or doom you will enjoy this game.

          SPRAWL is a great movement centric FPS.

          Action packed and fast paced; it’s pure pleasure to play once you are in the zone.

          The game wears on its sleeve the influences it has. Soundtrack, world-building, lore and the world are all inspired by the 90s. Dystopian and cyberpunk animes spring to mind, such as Ghost in the Shell.

          In addition to the main story, there are time trial and horde stages.

          While there are some minor bugs, and some needed polish around the edges, they do not detract from the experience. The game is easy to get into and will leave you wanting for more. Of course, there are all kind of game techs to learn to optimize your gaming experience. All in all, SPRAWL is really a hidden gem; not only does it catch the magic of the fast faced FPS of old, but it manages to push it to the limit.

          A pretty good movement shooter with wall-running, slow-mo, a dystopian theme and good freaking music for ambience a'la genre classics like ghost in the shell. Playtime for the thing, taps out at around 5h, which is plenty good given the cheap-as-dirt price, game's immaculate design and generally good feel. Recommend, even if your reflexes are likewise bad as a pensioner's.

          It is my personal opinion after experiencing the game in how it is in its current state.

          SPRAWL is a precision shooter ,with fast movement.
          The game is at most an essay to pick up and fun to play.
          Level design could be a little bit better ;There were sections where I was confused where to go or what the button did.
          And there is a lot of irritation that is coming from lack of double jump or rather lack the ability to gram ledges.
          In a lot of cases I fall down while trying to get on some platform just because I was millimeters too far to get on it.
          Most guns are fun except rocket launchers ,that I find are kinda bad to use at longer ranges.
          The whole experience is a short 3-4 hours ,but I think the game is doing everything in the right way; and the time of the experience is just right, not too long, not too short.
          Here is 8/10 - with irritation from falling down from bad measured jumps.

          I dont write a lot of reviews but I have to since this is so close to being amazing.
          its really fun...in the start, I think the whole thing level design is good and fun.
          but why the guns with long windups and that slows you down?? in your fastpaced bullettime fps with wallrunning? I will never ever understand this decision and it takes so much of the fun away from the core gameplay.
          Would have been such a hidden gem otherwise. Tho its still fun so I can recommend it but with an *

          Good shoot.
          Too short.
          Second half of the game makes slowmo useless because all the enemies have too much hp to quickly headshot and are better taken down with a shotgun that takes ages to cock or the railgun which takes ages to charge, so just keep moving and blasting like it's a regular game.

          Good little game but it gets a bit stale near the end. late game enemies and weapons miss the feeling of the fast paced gameplay at the start. The big guns are almost unusable because they break your momentum in a very unfun way that feels like getting punished for wanting to try the new weapons. This combined with the bullet sponge enemies with a lack of weak spots sadly make for an unsatisfying late game. I recommend buying it on sale as it's not a very long game.

          What do you get when you combine turbo overkill's movement mechanics, severed steel's clever use of slowdown combined with enemy weak points, doom 2016's enemy pinata design, and level design that makes use of all this masterfully? you get sprawl, this game. the only real problem is that the entire campaign is less than six hours long- at least when I played it. not nearly enough content for a game so good. I also wish that the slide could be used as a melee attack to kill stunned enemies like in turbo overkill, but that's a minor nitpick. soooo good.

          Nice thoughtless shooter to listen to podcasts about fucked up world.

          Few minor annoyances: checkpoints seem random and two many actions to quit (unless Alt+F4).

          Trauma of launch and load time of Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still there - a game that is few seconds away from ready to play feels already great even though it should be the default.

          Wallrunning is pure jank. No need to try and get it right, just mash the jump button and you'll achieve whatever you want eventually.
          The SMG's are useless, there's somehow bugs that let you walk through walls, but good luck getting out again.
          Checkpoints at 10HP with enemies nearby, fall off a ledge and you respawn who knows where - you get the entire package of awful game design.
          The shotgun does sound and feel powerful for the first 2 minutes, after that you notice it doesn't pack as much of a punch as it should.

          Overall i expected a lot more, can't even be bothered finishing the game just for the sake of it.

          Sprawl is a very smooth, exciting movement-focused shooter. It's not without its flaws but those flaws don't prevent an overall fun experience.

          First, the game handles VERY smooth. Solid 60 FPS at all times. Of course, this is helped by the low-res Quake-style textures but it's still a good-looking game nonetheless. The wall-running is intuitive and works pretty well. It's generally never intrusive and there are pretty distinct "fight" and "jump puzzle" segments.

          Second, the music is fantastic. It's a very potent combination of fast breakcore, dark synthwave and (surprisingly) anime-style choral pieces. It's extremely evident that the devs took direct inspiration from the first Ghost In The Shell OVA - several areas are direct nods to scenes in the OVA nearly 1-to-1. So, the choral tracks fit perfectly.

          The gunplay is...it's good but a little repetitive and sometimes frustrating. After playing and beating the main campaign, it felt to me like the guns were made for the enemies and not the other way around. Some weapons are really only viable against certain enemies and the game tries to encourage you to switch on the fly. But the way encounters are structured, that often entails running around trying to coral the enemies into convenient groups per weapon. This is made more difficult by the prevalence of old-school "monster closets" making it hard to predict what weapon I'm going to need at any one point in time.

          Most of the guns are only situationally useful. I found myself going back to the default pistol because that was one of the few weapons that caused enemies to drop power-ups from headshots and also didn't cripple my movement. Many of the guns either impose very frustrating movement penalties or are far too slow for the breakneck pace of combat the game tries to maintain.

          The weapon variety was also lacking. I won't spoil but it's the basic stuff you get in every FPS. You also get a katana for melee back-up but it's grossly underpowered. I found myself only using it to finish off enemies if they ended up in a yellow "stagger" state where they took some damage but not enough to die. It would have been nice if the katana had some kind of additional functionality, like parrying bullets or aiding jumping.

          Still, it's a very tightly-designed game and has some replay value if you like challenging yourself. I would also pick this back up if I just wanted to vibe and shoot for a few hours. The music and overall feel of combat is enough to make me look past the flaws. I was frustrated at points but in the end had a pretty fun time.

          Mad respect for the small team for putting this great little piece out into the world.
          Shout out to one of the Devs, Revel, who basically created the art, the 3d models, and the music and much more. Being a fellow generalist, you sir within a span of 30 seconds earned my absolute respect!

          To those curious, this is basically Doom in the Shell with a dash of Titanfall and a spritz of Half life 2. Its hardcore, absolute balls to the wall cyberpunk action that I would recommend any fan of the genre, or the aforementioned 4 to try out.

          The gameplay can be tweaked to your pleasure, I played with 1,5 damage to me and to the enemy. Its a no-nonsense endeavor where mobility is key and risky, aggressive play is the only viable method of obtaining ammo and health. Much like doom, damage an enemy enough and they enter a staggered state to be executed. I love the heart-palpitating pace of the gunplay, as you zip around like Speedy Gonzales high off of 2 kilos of pure Peruvian powder.
          My only sorta gripes are:
          1. By the time you blast through maybe 60% of Sprawl, the first two starting weapons (more so the pistols) feel almost laughably ineffective when compared to the recent acquisitions. I went "well, why the hell do I even have these?"
          2. Lack of a strong automatic weapon - I.e Doom's heavy rifle-style gun. Feeding back into my previous point, an addition of an automatic weapon that, unlike the minigun, does not slow you down but is a tad weaker than the latter would have been a godsend.
          3. Some enemies randomly explode. I know shooting their backs does that, but it seems that almost at random they'll just go kaboom while facing me head on.
          4. The armors don't add up to one another. I sort of don't like how the lower tier armors do not add additional armor to you. For context - your capacity at max is 200, but standard shields only give 50, and taking 2 standard shields will not take your armor rating from 50 to 100.
          5. The second half of the game almost feels like it has forgotten the concept or Sprawl's "glory kill" system all together, as the chaos of the combat and the strength of the weapons seem to obliterate anything before I get a chance to execute them.

          The style: It had me h o o k e d from the get go.
          Seeing a more grungy iteration of Hong Kong from the first Ghost in The shell mixing with an absolute blast of an OST was a pure, 100 proof Vibe. The enemies, the weapons, the props were all really well designed and fit the cyberpunk aesthetic really well. The world does feel like a repressed, squirming mass of decaying concrete and wire that is further trot into the mud and rot by the oppressive SWAT-looking enemies and their horrid automata.

          While the story is just a mechanism that strings together the gameplay levels, I will admit I still liked it very much and adored the directions the devs took it towards. The very last mission synergizes almost perfectly with the music, creating this grandiose, dramatic, sad yet spiritual end to the whole journey that had me glue to my seat the whole time.

          I wish to Commend the VOs for their work as well. Father's VO took the role and elevated it!

          All in all, I think Sprawl can easily be put into "must play" category should you be a fan of fast paced movement games. It certainly provides ample value for its small price.

          Gets boring quickly. Basically, an arena shooter with retro looks.
          Surroundings looks quite impressive if you're on the surface, but you'll have to spend a lot of time inside canals, bunkers and whatnot, so that's not much of a redeeming point.
          Enemies feel meh, basic ones usually stand on the same spot and don't move.
          Weapons are nothing impressive too. Shotgun feels kind of handicapped, and you just constantly run out of ammo in general.

          It's another frag shooter. Run, shoot, kill, take all the glowing shit you find. I also do like the critique of corporatism and the cyberpunk elements. Honestly this is worth your time and the price is very fair

          I tried to like it, but I can't. Its just way too cheap in the ways of production, to pull off what its trying to pull off.

          Shooting doesn't feel great, all enemies except first grunt take multiple headshots to be downed - and headshotting them without slowing down time and without aim help is very very difficult. So your combat basically consists of slowing down time aligning your shot, rinse & repeat.

          Weapons don't really feel right either, but the worst offender is wallrunning. It won't latch on when it should naturally latch on, it promotes bouncing from the same wall over and over rather than bouncing left/right, it lets you bounce of anything that has collision - such as hanging cables, but try to wallrun at a decent angle and decent speed, and you'll just slide off... so you wall run and then just jump and latch back on the same wall.
          The path is so linear that there's no exploration or creativity with running around.
          Wallrunning won't (at least it doesn't seem so) offset aim from enemies, so wallrunning in the arena during the fight, you're just making things more difficult for yourself - its far easier to just approach it like Doom, run forward, slow down time, headshot enemies, pickup boosters and just keep it going until everyone is dead.

          I absolutely loathed level 3 - falling off the ledges would randomly respawn you at weirdest places, even resetting me back to beginning of the map. The previous two were OK, but about 2 minutes into level 4 I gave up, just figured I gave it enough chance.

          I really wanted to like it because I am a huge fan of GTTOD and wanted another game like it, but this isn't it.
          You might like it if you like Ghostrunner, which also promotes the approach of dying zillion times until you nail that one perfect runthrough.

          SPRAWL is what happens when you mainline synthwave and sprint headfirst into a corporate meat grinder. The gameplay? Brutal. The pace? Relentless. But the soundtrack—the soundtrack—it doesn't just set the tone, it drives everything in this game with a bass-fueled adrenaline rush. If you don't like it, more than likely just a skill issue.

          A boomer shooter that doesn't shove in your face that its trying to be something new or incredibly unique, you can tell the dev's just want you to enjoy yourself for a few hours and blast some dudes in a cool apocalyptic neo-tokyo like setting. Kinda reminded me of Ghost in the Shell in a sense with the setting and story. Id say its worth your time and money on sale , buy it full price if you LOVE these sorts of games.

          Overall; 7/10 game, cool setting, decent movement, great way to burn 4-5 hours on a Saturday afternoon.

          Very satisfying gameplay; super impressive for such a small team. Movement and shooting feel great, solid level design, nice variety of enemies, dug the vibes. Rail gun was a highlight. ~6 hour campaign was perfect length.

          Any FPS fan should give this a shot for a few fun evenings.

          iF yOu LiKe ThOsE cRaZy AsS jApAnEsE mOvIeS tHeN sPrAwL iS dEfInItLY fOr YoU. A love letter to Ghost in the Shell and cyberpunk as a whole. With ghost in the shell references sprinkled through the game and the iconic water scene when Motoko surprises the run away smg gunner. Loved this game and story, highly recommended.

          After finishing almost 2 episodes I can say that:
          + It's fun to shoot
          + I like bullet time in this game
          + Parkour
          + Graphics

          - The game is very repetitive: A lot of the mission objectives are ‘go, switch the lever/click the button and keep going’ just described with different words but it's still the same thing
          - Rarely but still happened to me that shots at weak points were not registered even though they should have hit

          +/- The shotgun has too little kick for me
          +/- The intelligence of these invisible guys with knives is poor, because I just walk backwards and they run after me and I can just take them down one by one

          While this game seemed really interesting to me at first, as I played it just ended up feeling very derivative from other boomer/movement shooters, and like, no shit of course it does because they are in the same genre, but this game just doesn't do anything to set itself apart. It feels like sauceless turbo overkill gameplay combined with ghostrunner level design and story, antagonistic patriarchal voice in your head included.

          But... that being said it IS still a good game, and if you love the genre its a good pick up especially with the modest price tag, I just wish it did something to make itself a little unique
