31/32 achievements at time of writing. writing this now bc i'm worried continuing to try to 100% the game will cause me to hate it lol

it's a good game! if you liked the gameplay of the forest this essentially functions as a remake in that regard, with more of a focus on action and movement with the addition of easy-to-acquire firearms and vehicles. those latter two mechanics have the unfortunate effect of making the game feel more typical than it's predecessor, which brings me to my main criticism: the story.

it feels a bit far cry or call of duty? especially the opening with the mercenary squad and the dumb tattoo and the villain in the shiny jacket pistol-whipping you. the rest of the narrative feels more like fanservice than anything, especially wrt timmy from the first game. there were characters i liked, like virginia, but i felt they were only half-developed. the first game had a tight, disturbing horror narrative and i vastly preferred it.

it was also much scarier to be alone on the island and not have access to decent guns in "the forest". you do have the option of just murdering kelvin and virginia in this one if you'd prefer that experience, but i feel like that's a waste of the useful mechanics they bring with them.

despite these criticisms, i really like this game. the experience of wandering through the woods and findiing some useful item or bit of environmental storytelling still feels really good. the gameplay from the first one is more or less completely intact but made more advanced. the ability to customize any aspect of the game's difficulty, down to survival conditions and the weather, is also a huge boon for replayability, as is the fantastic co-op multiplayer.

it was very easy for me to sink 100 hours into this game, and while i think i do need a break from it now i think it's absolutely worth the $30

Absolutely disgusting sequel. Not even sure how this is passable as one. The gameplay is the same, but worse. The exploration is exactly the same, but worse. Combat and hit registration is somehow worse.

The most amazing part is, apparently a few years ago, they decided to stretch out the ending and make you do an entire fetch quest that stretches your playtime out for ZERO clear reason. There is NOTHING you get out of this except progression in a story line you should've already progressed through.

It's a shame this game is so bad, extremely rough to ever even recommend playing it, but definitely give the first one a one and done shot.

I was highly anticipating this game. It took me 5 years to get a pc to play it, and was only greeted with 10 hours of gameplay and an incoherent storyline masqueraded as a video game.
Endnight, note this for the sequel, extend the story line.

Sons of the Forest is the most immersive horror game (your against cannibals, mutants and demons) and survival crafting game with the balance of a strong atmosphere and terrifying moments with player freedom. You also have AI companion like Kelvin who helps you in your base building and Virginia who will be like a body guard. After completing the story in multiplayer mode with both endings, it still keeps you invested in building multiple bases, and the most fun part exploring and surviving with your friends.

greatest game for you and a friend to play there is no other game like this im telling you this is worth the money

great game love the way you can build your base and fight and the animations are nice definitely a huge step up from the first forest which i played so much and was getting bored of but sons of the forest is amazing and i don't think i will get bored of it anytime soon.

Where do i begin, I cant look past the lack of sex appeal present in this game. I just want to sit down, play and ride that fear factor while getting off. Why not add a sweet little girl side character that teases me and makes me want her throughout the game. Then at the end I get to pop her cherry. UGH What is with developers and failing to satisfy daddy's little sexy needs. LETS BRING SEX TO THE FOREST!!

It's a bigger and better version of the first game, as any sequel should be. Graphics are amazing, the combat and base building is fun, and the story is intriguing.

The AI on normal difficulty definitely puts up a good fight, which makes the game feel more intense and rewarding when you get through tough spots. One of the caves is pretty challenging, but it adds a cool sense of accomplishment once you figure it out and push forward in the story. Hunting takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of the slingshot or bow, it’s actually pretty fun. The new weather system is a nice touch too — snowfall changes things up and makes survival more interesting, especially when you need to get creative with water. Building has its moments, but overall it adds a fun layer to the gameplay.

I completed the first game earlier this year, and finally, my friend invited me to play the sequel to The Forest, Sons of the Forest. The latest iteration of The Forest series, based on the trailers and gameplay I’ve seen, is a huge leap forward from the first game. Honestly, I’m absolutely addicted and thoroughly enjoying this game.

In terms of gameplay, it retains the soul of The Forest—chopping down trees, building structures, cooking food, and surviving cannibal attacks. Let’s start with the enemies: this game has a wide variety of foes, from intelligent tribal cannibals to ape-like creatures and terrifying demon variants you’ll encounter while playing. There are also multiple ways to defeat them, depending on their weak points. What I really praise is the AI of the cannibals, just like in the first game. They’re highly responsive and adapt to how you survive in the forest. If you kill one of them, they become aggressive and attack in large numbers.
The building mechanics have also been updated. For example, structures now require supports, and there are fewer blueprints, giving players more freedom to build whatever they want. The blueprints themselves have been revamped, with options like weapon racks, beds, small camps, and many others you can discover.

What I love about building in this game is the addition of AI companions who help out, like Kelvin, who can assist with chopping trees or repairing damaged structures. Kelvin is very responsive—if attacked, he’ll hide, and his tree-chopping animations feel realistic and logical. Then there’s another AI companion, Virginia, who can aid in battles against cannibals and demons. You can equip her with a pistol or shotgun to help fight off enemies. Both AI companions are incredibly useful in almost every aspect, as they lighten the workload and reduce the feeling of loneliness.

Exploration is also a blast, especially since this game introduces an online map that makes navigation easier. Placing markers is simple, and exploring caves offers a variety of weapons and blueprints to discover.
Weapons and items are mostly similar to the first game but include new additions like the stun baton, shotgun, crossbow, night vision, and more, which make progressing through the story easier.

Another addition compared to the first game is the variety of vehicles, like golf carts and the Knight V, which make traversing the map much easier. There’s also the glider—unlike the first game where you had to craft it, here gliders are scattered across high grounds, making travel and exploration more convenient.

The graphics are absolutely stunning and satisfying, a massive leap in the game engine from the first title. Every time of day—morning, noon, evening, and night—looks gorgeous, especially during rain. The changing seasons, including an extreme winter, make survival incredibly challenging and immersive.

Overall, I’m thoroughly enjoying this game. It’s consumed so much of my time that I often lose track of it. I’ve been busy with activities like building structures, exploring caves, and hunting for rare items scattered across the map. My advice: play with friends, as this game thrives on cooperation between players, from building to fighting.

The downsides, in my opinion, are the limited content and a lackluster story, especially the ending, as well as a disappointing final boss fight. The cave boss fights are challenging, especially solo, but the last one feels underwhelming.
I hope there will be updates to add more content in the future because the story feels unresolved. I’m also hoping for a sequel, as the story leaves a lot hanging, and I desperately want to see where it goes next.

I put over 300 hours into this game during early access building several bases and a fast travel system, only to have it all taken it away at full release. I tried to start a new game, but there's just nothing new to do. The devs have practically abandoned the game after a year, adding very little content/life to an insanely large and empty map. You'll play maybe 20 hours and run out of story and items to find, leaving you to build and fight wave after wave of cannibals. It will get very repetitive, very fast, and the map is too empty to make it worth exploring. Take it from someone who has literally explored every piece of it, there is not enough content here to justify the time wasted crossing the map. The visuals are great, and the AI companions are cool to have around, but that's about all that sets it apart. Just play the original Forest.

Sons of the Forest is the ULTIMATE bonding experience. Nothing brings people together quite like watching your best friend run for their life yelling while a three-armed mutant barrels after them through the woods.

This game has it all: scenic landscapes, eerily quiet caves and the constant chaos of multiplayer survival. One moment you’r chopping trees and the next someone’s screaming “WHAT IS THAT” as a horrifying creature bursts out of the bushes like it’s late for something important.

The building system is great until someone places one log wrong and the whole house falls apart. Again. And yet somehow you'll rebuild it because teamwork makes the dream work and also because you really don’t want to sleep in the dirt again.

Kelvin, the AI companion, is both helpful and absolutely useless. He’ll gather logs like a legend and then stand there smiling while mutants wreck the place. Truly one of a kind.

In short : 10/10. Come for the survival, stay for the comedy of watching your friends get launched across the map while you pretend not to see it.

actually a good game with good graphics the best part is summoning 1,000 cannibals and ripping them apart who doesn't love ending a tribal camp cause i sure do love it.

The game is fun it give the thrill of terror yet adventurous, it’s absolutely fun

Really solid survival game with a creepy vibe and a story that actually keeps you curious. The building, crafting, and AI companions work great, and the world looks incredible. It drags in a few spots, but it never falls off. If you liked the first game, this one’s a proper step up.

Getting attacked by nude cannibals and mutants inside of completely dark caves is terrifying yet fun. The story is a bit wonky (same as the first one), but let's be real-We play to build crazy log cabins and keep our baby boy Kelvin alive. Oh, and to make weird foot effigies.

i like this game but its kinda hard to build a base. Kelvin is flipping useless and its lot of fun with friends.

After dozens of hours of grounded, immersive survival gameplay, the finale abruptly shifts tone and pace, throwing players into a bizarre sci-fi climax that feels disconnected from the rest of the game. Story threads introduced throughout—such as the mysterious cube, the corporate factions, and the mutant transformations—never quite tie together in a satisfying way.

From a gameplay perspective, the final area limits player freedom and emphasizes combat in a way that undermines the slower, methodical survival experience the game excels at. It also gives little payoff for your base-building efforts or the relationships you've built with NPCs. You’re forced to make a sudden choice, but neither outcome feels like a natural consequence of your journey.

Narratively, the story tries to juggle too many themes—corporate greed, alien artifacts, body horror, family drama—and ends up leaving most of them underdeveloped. The final scene raises more questions than it answers, leaving players with a sense of "what just happened?" rather than closure or reflection.

In conclusion, Sons of the Forest is a phenomenal survival experience that fans of the genre should absolutely play. It's tense, beautiful, and rewarding. But it’s a shame that the story doesn’t live up to the gameplay's polish, and that the ending undercuts the game’s strengths rather than bringing them to a satisfying resolution.

Awesome graphics, mechanics. Having PVE fun with buddies. This hits different, not like DayZ or Scum. Changing seasons, Crysis physics, rich biomes. Pretty unique. enjoying this game much, would recommend.

you can hit demonic babies, have a golf cart that's indestructible& defies the laws of physics, kill cannibals and eat them+make a chair/chandelier out of their bones? perfect game 11/10.

If you enjoyed The Forest, Sons of the Forest is a game you definitely shouldn't miss. The island’s design is much more complete and detailed, featuring wildlife and vegetation that feel alive and well-integrated, creating a highly believable and absorbing environment. Visually, the game is stunning. The graphics reach an impressive level of realism, with environments that look and feel incredibly satisfying, whether you're exploring dense forests or crossing snow-covered mountains. Every corner of the island feels carefully crafted, and it really shows during gameplay.

The cave system retains the spirit of the first game, with underground labyrinths that encourage exploration. However, in this installment, they feel somewhat underused: while their size is imposing and there are occasional enemy encounters, the constant sense of danger that defined The Forest is somewhat lost, as many caves feel empty or repetitive.

One of the game's strongest points is the building system. Personally, I love it. Unlike most other survival games, Sons of the Forest opts for a more realistic and intuitive approach, which adds an extra layer of satisfaction when constructing shelters and fortifications. Cutting down trees, designing structures piece by piece, and watching your base come to life feels natural and rewarding.

Not everything is perfect, though. Enemy AI is quite impressive but their strength borders on frustrating. Without armor, it's common to die in just three hits, which can disrupt the flow of exploration and construction. Additionally, crafting good armor feels tedious: despite being surrounded by a massive natural environment, natural protective gear (like wood) options are very limited. There's only the leaf armor, which is useful for stealth but offers very little combat protection. It would have been nice to see more types of armor crafted from natural resources.

Another aspect that doesn't quite shine is the story. Although the game presents a narrative that attempts to expand the island’s mystery, the plot feels secondary and not particularly impactful, far from being a true driving force to keep playing.

Sons of the Forest is a difficult game, not because that the enemies but because of how it's built up. There is no incentive for me to build a base. If I want to go along the story I will get enough supplies to constantly overfill my backpack. And talking about the backpack. I get that it's convenient to have everything with you at all times but it was also frustrating. I pick up a new thing and have to search through my backpack like a spelunker after gold. It would have been better if inventory was more restricted and I needed a base to store and upgrade my gear but no, instead I had to go from cave to cave to cave to get along in the story. The building system did seem nice but why would I stop to build if I could get to explore the story further? It would have been a nice change in scenery if some of it at all had been above ground. Instead, all you get is a cave explorer simulator, which at one point becomes just frustrating. You dodge or kill the enemies and just run through them in the hopes of getting the item or whatever you need to eventually get above ground only to look for the next cave. The addition of seasons made it not more difficult but just annoying limiting your stamina in the frigid cold. Totally unnecessary. The story as as a whole leaves many gaps, which will not be answered. In the first Forest game, you had a very clear mission and goal. In Sons of the Forest, you just go along with things. The graphics are nice tho.

This game is just amazing, it feels like a improvement over the first in every way and has so many fun things to do. The cannibals feel much more significant and like much more of a threat.

The real coop where you can play from the beginning to the end together is a relieve. I thought the developers these days do not understand the meaning of coop anymore (see SoD, Elden Ring etc)

Would have loved to have the teleport before the end of the game and not after, as building per ser is not the best in this game. There are by far more advanced games for this out there. Thats something which would be a crit point from me... Not enough accessory to build, not enough different material to farm. Even with a pickaxe, i can not farm stones in the mountain.

In total, that game is worth it´s money. You can use easily 50-100h in that game without getting bored. Especially with the cannibals and mutants, it got a nice flair.

In general, the game is good and especially fun in co-op, but...

...while I was playing, I encountered quite a few different bugs, glitches, even dupes, which sometimes ruined a lot. I was especially annoyed with the Gumshoe and Interior Designer achievements, they're not hard, but when you collect 50/50 notes and there's no achievement, it's annoying. To fix it, you have to restart the game and pick up a stick, wtf!
The construction mechanics, although simple at first glance, has many features and is very addictive.
And how cool is it to beat up cannibals and mutants with a katana and a chainsaw))

Fun game. Missed a prime opportunity to call the cannibal meal Greg, Stew of Stu. Gotta love the free slave labor Special K (in Kevin we trust) Also taught me a life lesson in nvr messing with a dudes 3 armed 3 leg mutant girlfriend.

Vastly improved gameplay, story, mechanics, and overall game across the board from the previous game The Forest. I really enjoyed the new manual building mechanic, and hated the cave exploration ( which is good because it is now F U * K I N G scarier )

The story is kind of good - mid IMO, and the cutscene is lacking, but you're not playing the game for that stuff anyway...

If the end credits teasing for the new Forest game, i'm really interested...

Sons of the Forest isn't as good as the first game, but it's still a ton of fun with friends. It just lacks the overall creepy atmosphere of the first game, and the story was better there too, I feel. Still, the game looks great and it's definitely a good time.

Absolutely incredible follow-up to the forest. devs really took everything that made first game special and cranked it up to eleven

This game actually feels like an upgrade over its first part in every single way (very rare to see these days), even though I’ve only played for few hours.

The world feels so much more alive, and the AI is a big upgrade. The enemies are way smarter, they don’t just rush at you anymore. Combat feels way more intense, especially when you’re fighting the cannibals. The forest looks really good too, so much more detailed. The building system is way better than the first game.

The companions in this game are seriously next level (including enemies offc) compared to most other games. They don’t just follow you around like passive NPCs, they actively contribute to your survival.

Overall, Sons of the Forest is an awesome upgrade with smart companions, intense combat, and a super cool world which can feel very scary at times

A great sequel to at game with poor pay off. This not only expands upon its predecessor mechanically but it also shows the devs have matured with their process'. Wheras the first game lost itself and many plot threads led to nowhere, this game will give explanations within the world without cramming them down you throat. I very much recommend this game both for mechanics and for the atmosphere. I look forward to a sequel.

Got this to play on Steam Deck and while it's not pc levels of smoothness, without adjusting any settings, I am able to play on the Deck very comfortably. It's awesome and the game in general is the best survival game out there in my opinion.

Love the game but as long parts of your base can just collapse it wont get a positive review from me. Its not a new bug but i see posts from last year complaining about it, 7 April 2025 still an issue. Frustrating enough to let this game go till its getting fixed.

So not a huge fan of horror games but I feel like the Sons of The Forest is only a little bit horror, or maybe I got used to it by playing on easy with big heads turned on. Either way it is a beautiful world to explore and build in and is 100% worth your time if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Building furniture out of Cannibal bones is a highlight of the early game experience.

Ran into a baby fawn with a golf cart, while its family watched and ran away. Then, the baby fawn whilst crying on the ground unable to move, suddenly got eaten out alive by a cannibal that appeared out of nowhere as I sat and watched. 10/10

pretty fun puzzles and gameplay; i liked traveling through the caves to get special items to advance the story and it's overall a very good survival game

Literally only have an hour of play time on this game but its generally the most fun I've had with a game in a very long time. I'm really not a big fan of survival games at all because they never do a good job at teaching you how to actually play the game which, I know that's kind of the point but take for example a game like terreria, which in not trying to throw shots at that game but I don't think one person can look me in the eye with a straight face and tell me they beat Terreria without a guide. Which this is why i like sons of the forest it does not really tell you straight up what to do but its still a fine experience I don't feel 'naked' or lost when starting off in this game, this games atmosphere is also very very amazing I feel so paranoid at all times like im always being watched no matter where I am. I never played the first game but I did watch my favorite youtubers play it when i was younger lmao. overall if your thinking about getting the game already I say get it, its not super tedious in my opinion or too easy. In my 1st hour I already found a giant mutated baby, a gun, and a golf cart, if that doesn't make you want to play this game than I don't think you ever will.

The only downside I have is the audio. I have some very good headphones but for some reason most sounds don't sound directional, when you hear something you just hear it, its kind of hard to tell where and what some sounds are coming from but maybe i need to mess with the audio settings.
