PLAY ON STEAM USING THE REMOTE PLAY TOGETHER FEATURE
From the creators of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons comes A Way Out, an exclusively co-op adventure where you play the role of one of two prisoners making their daring escape from prison. What begins as a thrilling breakout quickly turns into an unpredictable, emotional adventure unlike anything seen or played before. A Way Out is an experience that must be played with two players. Each player controls one of the main characters, Leo and Vincent, in a reluctant alliance to break out of prison and gain their freedom.
Features
- CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER- LEO - A hardened inmate with escape in his sights, Leo isn't the type to make friends. No matter the obstacle, Leo is willing to get his hands dirty and do whatever it takes to get the job done. VINCENT - Even though he’s fresh off the prison bus, Vincent is determined to break out. With quick wits and nothing left to lose, he'll prove that he's not to be underestimated by anyone, inside prison or out.
- TOGETHER THEY'LL FIND A WAY OUT - Escaping prison with a complete stranger isn't ideal circumstances, but Leo and Vincent have too much riding on it to second-guess themselves now. As freedom gets closer and closer, they'll have to learn to trust each other if they want to make it to the other side.
- WORK TOGETHER TO BREAK FREE - Use teamwork to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles.
- EXPERIENCE A VARIETY OF GAMEPLAY - Sneak, fight, run, drive, even go for a little fishing along the way.
Note:
THIS PRODUCT IS CO-OP ONLY. Play the entire experience with your friends using Steam's Remote Play Together feature.

A Way Out feels like a playable movie, and it’s a great way to introduce someone to co-op gaming.
Find a partner and set aside around 6 hours—you won’t regret it.
Gameplay is amazing, story is a rollacoster and the best part was playing with a friend. 9/10
I played A Way Out a couple of months ago, and it left such a deep impression on me. The story is emotional, the characters are well-written, and the twist near the end truly broke my heart — I actually cried.
The way the game forces you to work together makes every moment feel meaningful. It’s not just about escaping prison; it’s about trust, choices, and the bond between two people. If you’re looking for a co-op game that hits hard emotionally and keeps you hooked until the end, I highly recommend this one.
Despite the launcher being really annoying to work with... I really liked this game! The story was great and twist was jaw dropping. I liked that each chapter felt different in its own unique way. For example, in one I am breaking out of prison, in another I am fishing, and in another I am in a car chase and having a shootout with the cops. I sympathized with the characters and even got a bit emotional when the game came to an end. I would 100% recommend this game. You'll have a great time playing it with your friend.
An amazing game—I highly recommend it to anyone with a friend to play with. The story and character development were outstanding, but what truly made it exceptional was the ending. It left a lasting impression and brought everything together beautifully.
This game is not worth the price. Most of the game's mechanics are done for you, the cut scenes are very drawn out, and there's really no satisfying gameplay until the end, which is still not very good. There are many useless interactions and it's an overall short game, especially for the price. Would not recommend buying, there are plenty of other co-op games that are much better. It's more like watching a movie that you occasionally interact with.
one of the best local co-op games there is. despite how short it is its extremely fun, with some really unique cooperation parts and occasional playful challanges against each other, a good story, very fitting voice actors and amazing gameplay.
fun great to play with your partner we loved all the mini games, but cannot recommend anything that makes you get EA services on your pc because it just dosen't want to go away and will run aimlessly in the back ground like the gimp in my closet.. watching... and waiting.
don't bother buying this game it has a known problem that the devs don't care about and it crashes as soon as you start it. known fix didn't work for me so i just wasted money on a game that don't work.
spoiler
My friend and I went on an adventure together, breaking out of prison together, playing darts together, crossing up his in game son on the basketball court, and various other activities and shenanigans, only for him to blow my chest open leading to me feeling utter betrayal.
10/10
If you're looking for an interesting and fun game to play with your friends, don't miss this one. Great visuals, cool gameplay and nice story. Wish it was longer!
implementing that ending in a co-op game is just diabolical
A Way Out is a co-op-only title, and that’s obviously what makes the experience so good and refreshing, especially if you're going through it with a close friend.
The game uses a persistent split-screen mechanic throughout most of the story, which I found a little weird at first, but it quickly clicked and ended up being one of the game’s strongest features. Indeed, making you constantly aware of what your partner is doing and how your actions interact with theirs was a surprisingly smart design choice that really enhanced the immersion and teamwork spirit.
The gameplay works well for a story-driven title, with simple movement and intuitive controls. There were some more clunky and unnatural moments towards the end, but only for small sections that didn't impact the experience. The ability to choose between different ways of approaching certain scenarios based on the two protagonists' diverse personalities was also a nice touch.
The story starts off pretty strong, with the first part easily being the highlight of the game. After the prison break, the game doesn’t quite hit the same level of intensity or engagement, but it more than makes up for it with an insane, emotional and completely unexpected ending sequence. It ties together the characters' stories in a way that makes you genuinely reflect on the whole journey you’ve been through.
Speaking of the characters, Leo and Vincent might not seem that interesting at first, but their personalities and backstories unfold gradually, and I found myself caring about them more than I expected. Also, while you could switch characters between different sessions, try to stick with the same choice, as it really helps the immersion and emotional payoff in the end.
All in all, A Way Out isn’t perfect, but it’s a rare and unique co-op experience that delivers where it counts. If you’ve got a good friend to play it with, ideally until the end, it becomes a very enjoyable journey. Also, it's pretty short, which is ideal for a co-op game since stretching it out would have hurt the pacing and made it harder to coordinate sessions with a friend. That being said, it might be worth waiting for a discount before buying.
Wonderful Game, a 10/10 experience
Would recommend until the end, something to play with your Partner or friends! <3
I had played Split Fiction and It Takes Two first before jumping into A Way Out, and while I enjoyed those games, A Way Out hit differently.
The story was engaging from the start, and we went in completely spoiler-free, so the ending caught us off guard.
One thing I do wish is that the game had a true Friend Pass option. Like others have mentioned, we had some issues with Remote Play and connection, but managed in the end. Adding that feature would make it way easier for friends to team up and experience the game together.
very fun co-op game to play with ur partner or ur friend, EVEN THO I DIDNT EXPECT THE ENDING BUT OKAY.. its an experience.. overall i love all EA coop games
This was the first game of its kind that I ever played, and it really excited me. The story is solid, the gameplay is well-executed, and the character backgrounds add depth to the events that unfold throughout the game, making everything feel more meaningful and grounded.
Thanks to this game, I started following Hazelight (this isn’t a promo). The side missions are also well done, adding more layers to the experience. And if you're an achievement collector, I can say it's not too difficult to reach 100%—you just need to be a bit meticulous about the things happening around you. Alternatively, you can use a guide to help you get all the achievements.
great game, but....
been chilling in the menu for like 30mins bc i have no friends to play with
Important Note:
If you’re wondering why my Steam playtime looks low that's because we originally played it on EA Origin, and I just bought it again here on Steam to support the devs. Trust me, we put in the hours (and the relationship therapy).
So, my wife and I decided that the next logical step in strengthening our marriage was escaping prison together. Enter A Way Out. I figured, hey, after surviving It Takes Two without filing for divorce, how much worse could a little co-op jailbreak be? (Spoiler: It was chaotic. But in a good way.)
The Gameplay:
You play as Leo and Vincent two guys stuck in prison who team up for a grand escape. Right away, the game made it very clear: teamwork or bust. Which meant my wife and I had to actually communicate, coordinate, and trust each other all skills we’re still... let's say “developing.” At first, it was smooth sailing. We whispered tactics, timed our moves perfectly, and felt like the ultimate dynamic duo. We were unstoppable. And then... came the cart-pushing, the sneaky tool-passing, the back-to-back wall climbing. Suddenly every tiny mistake became a high-stakes blame game. We were two fugitives bound by love, adrenaline, and occasional passive-aggressive controller tossing.
"WHY ARE YOU SPRINTING?!"
"YOU TOLD ME TO!"
"I MEANT AFTER THE GUARD LEFT!"
"YOU NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC!!"
The Bonding Experience:
Honestly though? It was a blast. Even when we failed miserably (and oh boy, did we), we were laughing so hard we could barely breathe. Trying to coordinate the back-to-back wall climb without yelling was its own prison sentence. We’d get three successful steps up the wall, then one of us would mess up the timing and we'd go sliding back down like clumsy penguins. Every time we restarted, we'd shout motivational quotes at each other like, "This is what teamwork looks like!" and "We’re basically the criminal Avengers!" And somehow, the worse we were at it, the funnier it got.
The Story:
A Way Out isn’t just a "game" it’s a full-on emotional rollercoaster disguised as a buddy-crime drama. One minute we were pulling off the smoothest hospital chase ever, and the next, we were sitting in stunned silence because the story hit us right in the feels. Without spoilers, let’s just say: the ending wrecked us. We sat there for a solid five minutes after the credits like, "...Well. That just happened." We went into A Way Out thinking it would be about action and adventure, and left realizing it was about loyalty, sacrifice, and emotional trauma... just like real marriage! (Kidding. Mostly.)
The Visuals:
Absolutely beautiful. Every scene looked like it came straight out of a movie, with dramatic camera angles and cinematic action set-pieces. It’s not just “run and gun” it’s "run, gun, cry a little, laugh a lot, and probably mess up the timing on an escape boat."
Final Thoughts:
A Way Out took us on a wild, chaotic, hilarious, heartwarming ride. It challenged our teamwork skills, tested our patience, and somehow made sneaking around prison with my wife one of the most memorable gaming experiences we’ve ever had.
So let me set the record straight, through the ups and downs, and the crazy times through the story. Through the tears of pain and hatred to the tears of pure joy and bliss, and trust me there was definitely a lot of tears. I truly enjoyed this master piece of a thriller/ comedy/ romance/ dating/ e-date/ roleplay game. With me and my newly recruited friend, who will now be my best man at my wedding just because of the teamwork and bonding experience needed to complete this game I truly learned to appreciate the value of a hard working team. This master piece doesnt just show you a way out (of a prison) but it shows you a way in to your heart learning to be trustworthy, loyal and kind. At the end of the day...its alright.
Before anything else: mandatory EA Origin/app install to even play the game (and it insisted on installing in some other foreign language for no reason). That alone makes it a "must not buy".
The game itself is an OK way to spend a few hours with a friend online if you find It Takes Two a bit beneath your Adult Action tastes and need something more grimy and cool akin to the very mature animes you appreciate, like Naruto and Shield Hero. It's way too linear though; you're practically straitjacketed to the one storyline rail all the way to the end.
If you're thinking about playing this game with your significant other, don't. It will piss whoever "loses" off. It is a great game: the story is well done, the music is beautiful, and each character has something totally relatable that they are working toward. However, the ending was heartbreaking. No, good choices (also hate that my SO is a better shot than me).
I love this game but the achievements are broken sadly. Amazing coop game, easily top 5
Great experience
Yeah. Writing comparable to the breen-o-verse, but I thought it made the game really funny especially playing with a bud. The mini games are by far the best part and they're really fun.
Definitely recommended as a short and sweet co-op game which you can get through in a few nights.
It is a fun experience with your gaming buddy, my friend and I were lucky to not have seen the game play so when we got to the twist it was really surprising. The ending hits hard, and I it definitely made us both upset. We checked out both endings cuz you kinda gotta. Decent story, some goofy situations that make you question if there were any QA testers. The best part is delaying and messing with your friend to see how long it takes for them to mentally break. 8/10
Pretty good co-op experience. It's a little ridiculous at times but you're not supposed to take it too serious. It feels a bit short but the ending was great. Overall solid fun with a friend. Maybe get it on sale. 7/10
The most fun i've had with a friend in recent history.
The amount of times we audibly said "Absolute Cinema" while playing this game is comical.
Everything about this game is fun. I can't think of one segment that drags too long. The climax of the last two chapters are some of my favorite in gaming history, and the final boss fight ending(s) are still fresh in my mind even now from how good they were.
My only complaint is that it ended. It's less than ten hours long, so it's only good for a game night with a friend once or twice.
Great visuals with satisfying co-op gameplay. Only shortcoming was that the story did feel a little contrived, but overall it was an enjoyable experience that I would recommend people play.
An enjoyable co-op experience that in a lot of ways felt like a tech demo to me, almost like Hazelight were trying to throw as many ideas at the wall as possible to see what works.
The dialogue wasn't the best but it was still an enjoyable story to follow. A lot of the gameplay and minigames felt a bit tacked on to pad out run time but the novelty of a game that really leans into being a local co-op experience made it fun enough to look these over.
I'm yet to play It Takes Two and Split Fiction but I can imagine the freedom of an unrealistic setting would allow Hazelight to have a lot more fun with these types of games and I'm excited to try them.
The ending to the story was a nice highlight even if everything didn't make perfect sense. Definitely worth a playthrough with a friend.
I was very late to the party and discovered and played this game in 2025. Thank you random girls on TikTok for introducing this game to me XD. To be honest I thought this was a simple and silly game when I got it for me and my friend. It turned out to be so much more than I expected. It was very fun to play this game together and we laughed a lot, cursed at some point and in the end even cried. How dare you make us feel so much. It's not a long game. We took our time and finished it in under 8 hours. I do plan on playing it again in the future. It'll be fun to switch characters for our 2nd run. I'm happy I didn't know anything about the end of the story, as it wouldn't have had as much of an impact had I known. I bow to you, game makers, and my own ignorance for not seeing it coming. I am also traumatized for life by the boat on the wild river scene (that's where the cursing happened). I'm not looking forward to that death trap again XD. If you're looking for a short, fun and well made adventure for you and a friend go ahead and give this game a chance.
Also if you're (planning on) playing Split Fiction don't forget to search for our favorite prison besties there. We found them shortly after finishing A Way Out and it was a fantastic treat to see them one more time.
fun little game. i like the splitscreen and it multiplying at times. Even though it sometimes get confussing. Didn't see the plottwist coming. The ending was interesting with literally fighting for the ending. A good multiplayer story game
I am MAD at this game. After enjoying it takes two and split fiction i wanted to play this for the sake of completion. Admittedly its not as good as the other two but still engaging to play. But excuse me wtf are those Endings?!?
The fact that both are actually bad and there s no way to make it any better? Would it have been too hard to make a third neutral ending? Legit broke my heart. -.-
The game is for two players and has excellent graphics and does not require such a powerful system.
The game has a strong story and has multiple endings and two special characters.
You can enter it with the EA launcher.
9/10
Me and my gf played it takes two and really liked it so we decided to give this game a shot. It's really just not for me. It has more cutscenes and less gameplay than I expected. The stories alright, but not the type of game I really enjoy.
a way out? more like these guys should just MAKE OUT! anyways thought story was great, amazing characters, loved the game mechanics pretty fun, however the ending did feel a lil rushed unfortunately considering how well thought out the rest of the story was, but honestly its not that deep amazing game. i was betrayed. but you snooze you lose ig 3
Thumbs up it's good, not as good as it takes two maybe, but often funnier, though perhaps unintentionally. Play it with someone :)
The way the game builds the connection between the two characters is incredible. It’s not just about solving puzzles or sneaking around, it’s about the bond that forms between you and your co-op partner through them. The ending hit me harder than a train.
Smooth overall, the gameplay has a few rough edges—like moments when you need to shift around to find the right angle to interact. We started laughing once my partner and I took turns watching each other's back while one of us unscrewed the toilet in the cell.
What really shines is the camera work, especially during the intense hospital escape. On top of that, the game handles emotional moments with surprising subtlety.
The ending hit hard. My partner couldn’t bring herself to shoot me after everything we’d been through—so I shot her. Now we are both curious about how it would’ve ended the other way around.
From my partner: "我很喜欢电影般的叙事和越来越紧凑的剧情:GiveHug: 结局也令人难忘。"
I enjoyed the game :D
Finished the story in under 6 hours on the first run through with 6/14 achievements. Got lost a bit, but it was a lot of fun! Looking forward to getting the rest of the achievements and then continue on to finish It Takes Two and then Split Fiction!
I absolutely love everything this game studio makes. "A Way Out" is a great co-op game that brings out Uncharted, GTA, and even Fortnite vibes! Definitely recommend. The twist was something I did not see coming!!
This is one of the most incredible narrative experiences I have played in the last 5 years atleast. Lets talk about A Way Out:
The Pros First!
Graphics - This game has the signature style of Hazelight that will blend nearly cartoony and semi realistic character models and graphics together for a nice overall timeless look that will stand the test of time easily for many years to come. The world is beautifully made, with many realistic settings (hospitals, trailer parks, forests etc). The characters show true emotion and are designed well.
Story - This is the games strongest points. This is one of the most well written games I have ever played in a long time. The game starts off as a slow burn, especially compared to their newer titles, but will begin to ramp up to the point where you are glued to your seats. There are twist and turns throughout the story but NOTHING will prepare you for the emotional ending. I am still thinking about it. WTF. My genuine sense of shock when it happened was something that gave me goosebumps and I still am blown away by it. Hazelight does not pull any punches and the story ends in a very realistic way given the setting of the story and the ultimate twist. You MUST see this one through.
Gameplay - Pretty typical of hazelight studios, their gameplay continues to remain solid and they are the leaders in co-op gameplay for the modern era. No one comes even close to providing the same level of strategy, fun and story all in one. A Way Out is a more calm experience at first, with less action than the newer titles, but ramps up towards the middle of the story and rides out strong all the way to the end for the spectacular and insane finish. I was put off at first, but ended up not disappointed in the slightest.
Controls - The games controls are simple and effective. Pretty typical of hazelight. They manage to make a few buttons control a multitude of commands that keeps things varied throughout the game. It is keyboard and mouse friendly as well.
Mini-games - Typical of Hazelight, this game has a ton of minigames that you can partake in that will make you compete with the person you are playing. They do a fantastic job of making this completely optional but actually making you want to play (you can play darts, arm wrestle, play arcade games etc). The mini-games in this game are a lot of fun and i recommend you do them.
Value - This game is INSANE value. I couldnt even begin to recommend this game enough and if it is infact on sale, i beg you to give this game a chance. I cannot recommend this game enough especially since I have seen it extremely cheap before.
Lets talk about the few cons:
The Gun Gameplay - There are scenes where you can utilize gun gameplay and it is pretty standard but a little weak. The aim can get wonky and even if your supposed to headshot sometimes it doesnt and the reticule resets in the weirdest way. Its not enough to hinder the game, but its there.
The Slow Burn - The game starts off very slow. for alot of people this might be a turn off if they arent ready. It is very cutscene heavy and very story heavy but i promise you, the story is worth it. Some people hate slow burns though so I am mentioning it
Game duration - The game is VERY short. 6 hours or so to complete the game and thats with messing around and doing all the mini games. Extremely short experience...you are going to wish it kept going.
Overall A Way Out is a absolutely insane experience that I cannot recommend enough. If this game is ever on sale and you see it on the store, do NOT waste any time and purchase it immediately if everything i listed sounds good to you. You will not regret it!
Thanks for the read
Co-op titles have always been one of the favourites, and A Way Out is surely one of the best among them.
The game has a short campaign thus convenient for both players, and it has more than a few moments worth remembering. A Way Out is what you call something ' simple yet effective '
Coming to the story, it's short but good and it mainly focuses on 2 protagonist. It's exciting, emotional, engaging. The initial and the ending phase really comes to a full circle at last.
For a short game the devs really outdone themselves with a way out, the graphics, mini games, NPC conversations, Engaging action sequences, some details here and there, All these things adds up.
At the end of the day there's nothing much to say, A Way Out is definitely a good title that you can enjoy and spend your time on.
So much fun, we need lots more games like this in co-op! Can't wait to play it's take two and split fiction already 😋
DO NOT! I REPEAT! DO NOT PLAY THIS WITH SOMEBODY THAT YOU CARE ABOUT! THIS GAME IS FUCKING BONKERS. Super fun! 10/10, but play it with a CASUAL friend. Amazing game, cool cutscenes, great characters, but it will RIP your heart from your chest and make your friend look inside themselves and witness the monster they've become.
This game has a weird audio bug unless your playing from speakers, or can change your output, which my girlfriend couldn't. Other then that really great coop game. Playing this with her was a blast (even if she cheated on the quicktime events.)
One of the games where you have to escape el patron decapitation with frend killing fent addicts. In all honesty worth playing, the game itself turned out pretty good giving so many emotions while playing
10/10 arm wrestling simulator
This game makes a really good job at making you feel like you are a part of its world, the story is pretty decent and gameplay is entertaining. The ending(s) is sad but thats what makes it hit harder. EA servers are a bit janky as always but its still fun competing against your friend in arm wrestling where you both spam a button for 10 min straight just for your friend to win because you lagged out.
8,5 / 10
Would def recommend.
Great project!
Interesting story, good characters and gameplay.
Definitely worth it!
"Well, the results are in, and once again Microsoft CEO Bill Gates is the richest man in America. Gates says he is grateful for his huge financial success, but it still makes him sad when he looks around and sees other people with any money whatsoever" -the script writer
game was awesome, well-written, i rate it 11/10
ABSOLUTE CINEMA!!!
(ps: i was playing leo and i feel bad cuz game trolled him at multiple poitns and yeah at the end he...)
